Okay - it’s Friday afternoon, the boss just left, and tonight I get to go to pub trivia on Mel Brooks & Monty Python movies.
What is making you smile this afternoon?

I have the house to myself until Tuesday night
I look sharp today (to my own surprise, heh). I bought a new pair of capris, hunter green, that look great on my skin tone and my legs, and I am wearing a billowy gray&white&black shirt that’s a little low-cut, with high-heeled sandals and appropriate jewelry. I look casual yet sexy and my hair is acting wonderfully today, too. It’s rare everything comes together just so!
Cuz it’s Friday, duh! Woo!
My son was talking about teachers this morning and mentioned a certain Mr. Hiscock.
I really tried to be the adult, but I couldn’t help but snort a tiny bit. To which he said “I know, right!” And so we both chuckled like a couple of 12 year olds. Even though I’m 49.
I love days like that!
Yesterday I got an e-mail for an interview next week at a place I never would have dreamed would be interested in me -it’s the absolute brass ring for my field IMO. My expectations are low, but it’s all I can think about today. I’d have to sell my house, move away from friends and family - but it would be one of the greatest opportunities I’ve ever had.
very nice! what’s your guilty pleasure when you are alone? Mine used to be taking bubble baths with a good book and a large glass of my favorite juice combo.
Yeah - not every Friday has been like that for me lately - but woo!!
It’s fun when you can laugh with kids without explanation. My last phone convo with my dad was talking about his “walking briskly” with my stepmum (fyi -
“walking briskly” is one of the signs listed in his after-heart attack brochure ‘so when can i have sex again?’). His death was unexpected - and I cling to the fact that my last words with him were so much fun.
hope is always awesome. And a nice nod that you are doing the right things! I’ll rattle some chicken bones for you
I just found out that my longtime fiction/RPG character is being included in an upcoming published compilation of legendary characters from the game. I found out yesterday, and I’m still grinning like an idiot over it.
I love that you not only post these threads for us but make a point to respond to everyone, so everyone feels a tiny bit loved and appreciated. Don’t think I haven’t noticed you taking the trouble. So in addition to my previous one, I’ll add: melodyharmonius made me smile, on this Friday afternoon!
That is so awesome! You aren’t Leroy Jenkins, are you??
Don’t make me all blushy! :o
Here in about an hour and a half I get to find out if lil’pbbth is going to be a boy or a girl!
This morning heard from the Prospective Boyfriend who had dropped off the face of the earth for a few weeks. Still interested, abjectly apologetic, etc. Happy to be able to cut him some slack and give him another chance, rather than being left wondering what went wrong.
I was tossing some stale popcorn out in the yard for the birds and a male cardinal swooped in and landed about a foot from my feet. I froze in place, he cheeped a couple times, turned his head to look right up at me, then flew off. I think it startled us both, but it sure made me smile!
Oh… and I normally work on Saturdays but took tomorrow off because it’s my birthday-#51, ugh- so I have a 3 day weekend ahead of me.
I’m smiling because my love is coming back after a week and and a half in Africa this weekend, and I missed her.
Woot! you know when they are born and do their first pbbth - you are going to have to capture that and make it your gif!
wishing you luck - or a new prospective boyfriend
I had a frog lead the way up the walk Thursday night - it was quite amusing. I love cardinals, but sometimes they are tad bit blonde - we have ones that keep flying in to my bf’s glass window, stun themselves, and then get up and fly off.
And happy birthday to you! 51 is nothing to ugh about. 51 is the new 41
Does that mean 41 is the new 31? (o pleez o pleez)
I had my annual mammogram today and through the wonders of modern digital imaging they called me within an hour to tell me I was all clear for another year. With my family history of early breast cancer (sister diagnosed at 27, dead at 38) that’s enough to make me happy. Even though I have a visible bruise on my left boob and my whole chest hurts.
I have a couple of good friends coming to my house, a bottle of white wine chilling in the fridge, several bottles of red prepared to follow. I’m sure they’ll appreciate my cooking, no matter how it comes out. (The wine will help with this.)
Also, and unrelated: my fiance & I got the office (aka the worst room) somewhat tidied at the end of May. It’s stayed that tidy.
A friend I thought had decided to drop me came by the other day. With her husband & four month little boy! Turns out she’d just had to go away from the city for awhile, and our language barrier made it hard to communicate everything that was going on. (She’s Korean & I’m American - the talking is sometimes hard, but always worth it.)
I guess that makes us 31, then.
I had to smile yesterday, because my parents took Spike to the zoo down in Columbia as a present for his fourth birthday. Not only did he have a great time, but he also made sure he walked slow enough for his Grandma (who’d gotten a new hip this past March), and he was one of the best behaved children there. That last part is amazing, since that child had a severe case of crazy.
My smile got bigger last night, because my parents had brought Allen & Son barbecue down from Raleigh. Mmmm… barbecue…
I had to laugh this morning when my father came downstairs. Squeaky (2) let out a yelp when he saw him, and screamed, “G’an-daddy!!!” He turned around in his chair looked at me fixing breakfast, pointed back to my father, and shouted, “Dad-dee! G’an-daddy!!”
