Live Action Shows On Adult Swim

There isn’t one I think is funny, well-scripted or well-acted, and when they come on, they lose me as a viewer.

I’m sure they produced this manure because the great animated shows they feature just don’t get produced in a number that would prevent re-runs (thereby also losing the viewing audience), but someone on Williams Street obviously didn’t think things through.

I wonder if it would be possible for them to use that time frame to show short animated films submitted to Sundance Film festival or other venues.

The viewing audience might even participate in some way and even create (gasp!) another awards show!

Disclaimer: Just so this doesn’t come off as being totally ignorant, let me state that I’ve only been an AS fan for a couple of years, so if this has already been done, please let me know in your comments and educate me.

Educate me anyway, y’all.

Thanks

Quasi

Yeah, they suck.

So do a lot of the animated series in the block, to be honest. But at least they belong on the Cartoon Network, to the extent that they belong anywhere at all.

They are all pretty God-awful. It seems they all follow the “Tim and Eric” rule of comedy (yes, I know they aren’t all Tim and Eric shows, but they have the same “feel.”)

Character 1: Hey,<something serious.>
(awkward pause)
Character 2: Oh yeah, well <something mildly funny but delivered in a really stupid way.>
(awkward pause again)
Character 1: Oh…well <something not funny at all and delivered in a really stupid way>.
(even more awkward pause…possibly a weird sound effect that has little, if anything, to do with the scene in inserted here)
Character 2: Well…I guess you’re right.
(Yet a another fucking awkward pause, this time there will usually be slowed-down laughter for some stupid fucking reason.)

I kinda like “Look Around You,” but the rest of them suck. Bring back “Lucy, Daughter of the Devil!”

I also hate that Xavier, renegade angel thing.

Time & Eric is pretty much the worst thing I’ve ever seen on TV. No exaggeration. My ex-gf LOVED that show…no wonder we aren’t together anymore.

I occasionally enjoy Tim & Eric in a “Wow it’s great that you’re trying experimental comedy and even Andy Kaufman sucked sometimes” way.

The show I really loathe is Delocated. Every time I watch it it just seems to be about the main character being a total dick to everyone around him. It’s like listening to a retarded kid bang out the same note on an out-of-tune piano over and over and over and over … .

How’s Children’s Hospital? I’ve seen the commercials for it and it looks…different, but I’ve never seen an episode.

Actually, it’s not bad. It has the tone of a typical network doctor show, but the situations are completely absurd. It’s way better than most of their other live-action crap.

“Look Around You” was great, but it was an import. “Tim and Eric” definitely has its moments, but not enough to make me a loyal viewer. I’m actually surprised it’s still on.

I don’t think there are going to be new episodes.

Cartoon Network needs to add some…cartoons.

Adult Swim isn’t Cartoon Network. It used to be, but it became it’s own “thing.” Same channel (by which I mean same number,) but Adult Swim isn’t just a “block” of Cartoon Network programs, it’s officially it’s own station/channel/whatever they call themselves. Both are owned by Turner Broadcasting, but Cartoon Network has no more say in what Adult Swim does than TBS or TNT do.

Someone can correct me if I’m wrong, but I seem to remember that is the gist of it.

It seems wikipedia backs me up:

I voted yes they suck. The one exception being Garth Marenghi’s Darkplace, because that didn’t suck.

I don’t know why everyone seems to dislike Delocated. I think it’s absolutely brilliant. It’s some of the funniest stuff I’ve seen on TV in a LONG time. It’s not better than say, Arrested Development, but it isn’t bad.

I LOVE their live action stuff.

To be fair to this post, I also love Food Party. But that show’s fucking weird.

Can you articulate why you feel that way? I’m not being snarky, I’m honestly curious as to what you see in it.

Why doesn’t Adult Swim/Cartoon Network/Whatever ever show classic or old indie or world cartoons? You know, something like Spike and Mike or Image Union or whoever used to show festivals of. Adult Swim used to have a show called “O Canada” that showed Canadian stuff. It could be arty, funny, strange. Stuff like Jours Du Plaines, Billy’s Balloon, Hilary, or Your Face, The Stain, or like ten million others I could think of.
Is it copyrights, cheapness, or just plain laziness that prevents this?

I mean, it could be sooooo awesome, and it ain’t.

I don’t know if I can put it into words. Every single bit gets me. But I’m also a big fan of awkward humor. Tim and Eric, Delocated, and a couple others all remind me of zach galifianakis’s humor. It’s that weird “WTF?” quality of it that really gets me. It’s the only thing that I find funny anymore.

I find Jon’s delusional arrogance hilarious, I love how his wife keeps falling in love with her new body guard and dumping her old one, I love the network is documenting his protection while simultaneously pushing his attackers to hurt and kill jon to improve their ratings. To be honest, I think I hit on a point there: Jon’s delusional arrogance. Everything he does he thinks is hilarious, or super awesome, or simply perfect. Every ounce of recognition anyone gets he’s sure its from his show or his “brilliant ideas.”

I know that’s not very precise but I hope it helps.

Sorry, I can’t vote, because I won’t watch them. Yes, it’s [adult swim], but that doesn’t stop it being Cartoon Network. Live-action shows on CN are an abomination on a par with designated hitters in MLB, regular season interleague play in MLB, and less-than super-sharp cheddar cheese (in food).

I’d rather sit through Perfect Hair Forever, FLCL, and Squidbillies than watch a live-action show or movie on Cartoon Network.

You need a third option: They mostly suck.

Mighty Boosh and Look Around You were made from distilled awesome. The rest of them suck.
