A very long time ago I read an article that claimed that test rats were fed twenty or twenty five different cereals and the only one that they were able to survive on was Cherrios. Has any one heard about this study?
Don’t know about any official studies but …

"A footnote to this thread. My rats, now grown to eight in number, go crazy for breakfast cereal. I try to get stuff that is low in fat, but what about sugar. Rosey and Samantha steal the cereal out of my bowl, but before I feed them anymore, I want to know if anyone knows about sugar and rats. I know their little hearts beat so fast and all, so I am careful not to give them too much, but they really beg for it. Wheat puffs have no fat, sugar or sodium, but mine prefer coco blasters, corn pops and all the stuff that is not even good for me.
Any comments about sugar, breakfast cereal and pet rats??
One word - Cheerios!! :: Perfect size, no salt, no sugar, low fat (I think - I don’t eat them, myself) and Peri goes nuts for them. I’ll occasionally give her a piece of Cap’n Crunch, but not often. Chris"
They must be likable little critters. Wished I had named my kids with a little more thought … Samantha. Other non-SDMB threads, just can’t be!
