Living while black in America

Good one. Makes me think of the heinous toy commercial featured in the Mr. Rogers documentary “Won’t You Be My Neighbor?”. A couple boys are watching a war movie on TV, and the soldier breaks the fourth wall and tosses his gun through the screen to the kid, who suddenly is holding what looks like a realistic, full-sized military weapon. The other boy is like “Hey, what about me?” :smack:

White man, not a resident of the building, pulls a gun on four black men trying to visit a friend in the building.
A White Man Pulled A Gun On Black College Students Who Were Trying To Get Into An Apartment Building?

Those young men are idiots. The man had a gun. They should have just let him get in the elevator and go away.

No, I am not blaming the victim, I am pointing that this is the type of thing that gets people shot. It is not accommodating the oppressor, it is staying away from a nut with a gun.

Young men are idiots.

if America is so bad for blacks, why don’t blacks emigrate?

Because in a very short time, whites will be a minority, and things will change.

but so will blacks too; their numbers aren’t growing. Its the Hispanics and the Arabs whose numbers are growing.

This is their home.
They’d rather work to make it better than abandon it.

Not that I claim to speak for black Americans, mind you, so if I have this wrong, Huey, please call me out. I do know that most black American’s forebears came to this country before mine, so I won’t be one to suggest they leave.

Or did I get whooshed?

Do you think that as America becomes browner, Latinos and Muslims are going to become the oppressors of Blacks?

Why the hell should they? This is their home too. Let the racist assholes leave – they’re the ones with the problem.

Oh, jeez. Other than Native Americans, who were here first (although they immigrated too, much as so many of them try to deny it), who has more right to be here than African Americans? They are here because their ancestors were kidnapped and forced to work in bondage for no pay, and to submit to barbaric cruelty like whippings and separation of families, not to mention rape. Their original languages were repressed, as were their cultural customs, although some of those survived in some limited respects.

first off, blacks in America, in the present, not in slavery times or in Jim Crow south, are NOT OPPRESSED. Sure they may be at disadvantages, some a result of history and some idiosyncratic, but you’re cheapening real oppression, like that of the Armenians under the Turks, Catholics in the UK until about 100 years ago, Jews in Nazi Germany and other Axis countries, Christians in pre-indpendence Southern Sudan, etc.

Ceteris paribus, blacks’ lot won’t increase much in the absolute sense. Relations between Hispanics and black, as well as Arabs and blacks (especially given how rough blacks have it in Arab countries), have not been always peaches and cream. Look at Brazil for God’s sake. The of course is the chance that maybe they team up, but odds are they don’t.

No one is saying blacks don’t have the right to be here. But independent of slavery, America is and was a white-majority country where whites will have it easiest. Blacks and leftists need to accept this. Human nature is that people are better to their own. Affirmative action already does what people claim reparations should be given for; redress for slavery. Any more is just being babies about how life is unfair.

Though the previous dipshit has been euthanized (yet again), I am mildly curious to know how Brazil is illustrative of conflict between Hispanics and blacks, or Arabs and blacks.

Let me get this straight. You have a kid with autism, so you have compassion toward autistic people and call out what you perceive as bigotry. This is commendable and kudos to you. But just a few posts later, you derisively label an entire people and culture as inferior and backward. This is so predictable for white folks. White folks are the only people to walk the earth who have no compassion for anyone except people who look like themselves or their loved ones. It’s like there is an inhumane deficit of empathy and compassion from white people toward those who are different. Fucking predictable. That’s fine. I’ll treat you like ya’ll treat us. Do you know why you have not* one* but* two *kids with autism? It’s because they are inbred. In a way, the high rates of autism in white folks is a testament to the power of whiteness. White folks are pathologically attracted to themselves - their blue eyes, their blond hair, their aquiline noses, their pale skin, their perceived status, their privilege - and are sexually repulsed by everything else that isn’t white or very similar to European features. Hey, did you know mouse and rat models of autism use inbred strains? Go ahead, look it up because autism speaks. It’s a shame, too. If you had a child with a person of color, your children would likely not be autistic (and you would be as hateful toward people of color). In your quest to bequeath the power of whiteness and white privilege to your progeny, you have, instead, cursed them to live as a disabled minority under the federal protection of the Americans with Disabilities Act. The truth hurts. Do you know the only ethnic group that surpasses you white folks in the rates of autism? Somalis. And that’s because they culturally marry their first cousin. You can look that up, too.

No, it’s just SlackerInc. He’s a jerk.

Guy still believes in those whole “racial” theory that went out before WWII, doesn’t he? The one that was all the rage in the 1920s?

(Although I wouldn’t take anything Autism Speaks seriously either. They’re a bunch of anti-vaxxers. Fuck them)

Given that the story has changed a few times now, we can now assume that police are engaging in misinformation to muddy the waters. The story is odd because we’re expected to believe this idiot didn’t know enough to know the victim wasn’t a threat yet knew enough to know that he was. We will likely never know the truth. White folks will gobble up whatever the cops say. And, this woman will get off. IMO, your intention matters not, what matters is the impact of your actions and behavior. The problem, as I see it, and I’m not a lawyer (at all) but U.S law (and white culture) emphasizes intention over impact. I learned today white folks even came up with a word for it - mens rea - which encapsulates intention over impact. These thots even created a fictional character called the “reasonable person” (I’m not making this up) which they ascribe human qualities, traits, and shit. This all screams of white folks trying to convince themselves of the fantasy that human beings are capable of being objective. We’ve been here before. White folks will do their magic, this monster will get off, then white folks will tut-tut at people of color who express indignation.

This is all very interesting and I don’t doubt the scientific validity of what you describe. It makes sense.

There’s only one thing I dispute about it, but it’s a doozy. I don’t believe autism is a “curse”. If there were some sort of pill or other treatment that was guaranteed to “cure autism” (I guess that would mean making someone neurotypical), I would not authorize it for my kids, although I’d let them make their own choice upon attaining majority. This is not true of how I’d feel about other disabilities: I’m fairly sure I’d be eager to give a blind child vision or enable a wheelchair-bound child to walk. But my wife and I agree on this, as does every parent of a child with autism I have met (which is quite a few). Whereas I doubt this is a common feeling among parents of kids who are blind or in a wheelchair.

ETA: This idea that only impact, rather than intention, matters is one that was also discussed on the latest Sam Harris Waking Up podcast. It’s a terrible and very dangerous idea, as it seems to be increasingly influential.

You’re losing me here, Huey. I am not aware of any studies that indicated autism is associated with alleles most common among those of European descent. I do remember reading it was associate with higher paternal age, but that was a while ago.

And if you are just realizing now that the law is weird, you are behind the curve. You should have known this years ago.

Dude you are a fucking idiot and don’t know what the hell you’re talking about. My ex used to work with developmentally disabled men, women, and children. There are tons of black kids and for that matter mixed kids that have autism. The overwhelming majority of their patients were black, but that is anecdotal.

Autism isn’t as simple as genetics, there are thought to be environmental and autoimmune aspects as well, its a multi-faceted phenomenon, its not that well understood a disorder. There is also an interesting trend of rising rates among immigrant children or children of immigrant mothers, which I think helps to suggest there is a lot of unknown environmental risk factors.

Not to mention that people with less money are probably not as likely to have their children, diagnosed or they may be diagnosed at a much later age.

Actually every source I’ve been able to find also says that black males also have higher rates of mental retardation, although I’m not as inclined to include that as though it can be concomitant with autism it can also be a separate medical issue.

You have an obvious bitter resentment towards white people, and in my opinion are a fucking troll at worst, and at best a complete moron.

Here is another cite for you with an interesting quote:

You could have taken a different tact and said that there should be more awareness and resources available to low-income black families so their children could receive access to better programs and interventions, which generally helps more if diagnosed and initiated at a younger age, instead you took the low road and used it as an opportunity to troll and spew more racist garbage. I didn’t expect any less from you though given your posting history.
