"The Jena Six"

Have you guys heard about this?

Now thousands of people are rallying to this guy’s support! He participated in a six-on-one assault on a white kid!

The worst thing about it is that they are trying to potray themselves as “civil rights” crusaders! Should blacks have the right to attack whites en masse and just get away with it? This is ridiculous!

Incidents like this make my blood boil … Aaarrrgghh!

I can’t tell if you’re being sarcastic or not. These kids were charged with attempted second-degree murder and concpiracy to commit murder for beating someone up. And their victim was treated and released that same day. And a black student was beaten up by white students earlier that week, but no one was charged. And the guy they beat up was apparently racist and in support of the ‘adolescent prank’ of hanging nooses from a tree.

If this had ended with the nooses in the tree and white students shouting racial slurs and admitting to hanging the nooses, there’d be plenty of people saying they’d like to kick their asses. Most would admit that they’d only like to, and wouldn’t IRL, but I imagine their desire would increase somewhat living as a minority in that caustic environment. Not everyone is a pacifist. I imagine most of the shotgun owners in that town aren’t.

Beating someone up may not be a matter of civil rights in itself, but the other incidents in that and other articles certainly are.

All I can say is that I live in South Louisiana, and everyone I’ve talked to is VERY embarrassed by the whole thing. They all agree that the Jena officials, from the school board to the district attorney, have screwed up every step of the way. Obviously, there’s way more to the story than “a six-on-one assault on a white kid.” Sympathy, at least around here, is all for the black students.

They’re rallying to his support because he was charged as an adult with attempted murder for what amounted to a fight amongst schoolmates. The “white kid” was briefly knocked unconscious and had a black eye, but was ok enough to go to a school event that night. It’s a civil rights issue because the six black teenagers were given disproportionate charges because of a buildup of racial tensions over various incidents leading up to this.

If I’d had the leave available to take from work, I’d have driven to Jena today to take part in the protests myself. This was an abomination of justice.

Not quite.

Civil rights protesters converge on Jena

Emphasis added.

While there may have been some problems with the judicial system in this case, I can’t side with those who:

Free them??? How about “Prosecute them fairly”. Of course, that isn’t as catchy.

What kind of punishment do you think is appropriate for the six attackers? Six against one, that was so sporting of them!

This shit is just hilarious:

They don’t get to sit under the “whites only” tree?

Okay, were they? Did they, in fact, plan to kill their target? If so, it’s attempted murder.

It doesn’t matter how slight the injuries were. If they intended to kill him when they attacked him, then it was attempted murder and an extremely serious matter. What evidence is there that they intended to kill him?

What were the circumstances? Was it a fight that broke out spontaneously, or did the white students plan to attack him beforehand? If they planned it, were they planning to kill him?

So it’s okay to beat people for being “racist” now? The charge of “racism” is easy to make and difficult to refute, and is often made for no other reason than to dehumanize and demonize.

Did you miss this entry on the timeline:

December 1 2006 - A black student was beaten by a group of white students at a “white party”.

Quite sporting of them also.

And this was pretty f’d up:

“December 2 2006 - At the Gotta Go convenience store, the black student who was beaten up the night before, along with his friends, ran into one of the white students who beat him. A confrontation broke out and the white student went to his vehicle to get his shotgun. The black students wrestled the shotgun away from him and brought it to the police department and told them of the incident. The black students were arrested for stealing the gun. The white student was not charged.”

This is what irks the hell out of me! Black leaders will try to make “heroes” out of a bunch of thugs! Yeah, these six guys are real “civil rights crusaders!” Hey, maybe the white kid said the dreaded “N-word” – well, he just deserved to get beaten for that, didn’t he?

And, of course, they expect whites to go along with all this, and plenty of them do – some liberals can’t see blacks as anything but victims!

Yeah, I read the Wiki article on this deal, and the punishment seemed a little harsh. Further, to call tennis shoes deadly weapons thereby creating the aggravating factor in the crime is a big stretch, but the jury bought it. A jury made of of all white people, because it seems none of the black empaneled jurors showed up.

IMO, six on one should have been the aggravating factor, but IANAL.

Seems to me that although the first bite at the prosceutorial apple was a little too large and that the punishment has, through the system, been corrected and is a better fit for the crime.

With that out of the way, seeing Jesse Jackson’s smug countenance on my nightly news makes me want to toss a brick thorugh the screen. Ditto for Sharpton. These assholes make Free the Jena Six my fat white German ass. Prosecute them for the crime they committed, do it fairly, and move the fuck on.

That doesn’t bring TV cameras and paid protestors though I suppose.

I truly despise both of those self-important race baiting assholes.

Try again:

While that sounds fucked up, with the contradicting testimony, the proof is all the cops can go on, and the proof is; guy A had guy B’s gun, and guy A says he ain’t supposed to have it. The Disturbing the peace charge DOES sound like bullshit though.

Call me crazy, but if I was fighting with someone and they ran to get their gun, and I somehow managed to get that gun from them, I’m not sure I would be prepared to hand it back. Even with my friends around me. Unless they were all wearing kevlar, that is.

And I imagine that if six young men truly wanted to kill one they could have easily done so.

Hey, I am all for prosecuting the white students who did that! I can’t imagine anything more terrifying than a group of people attacking you!

I just get really, really tired of black leaders converging on incidents like this, and minimizing penalties for black thugs who indulge in the worst possible behavior, or, worse yet, making them out to be the equivalent of Martin Luther King!

What kind of person would participate in a six-on-one attack?

A thug. But only the black thugs are being prosecuted.

Sharpton and Jackson’s antics merely serve to embolden boorish blacks who think whites are fair game. Don’t try to tell me that people like this don’t exist, there were plenty of them at Tennessee State University when I was a student!

No doubt it’s screwed up, still, it’s all you can go on as the A/O, and let the courts settle it.

It’s another one of those exasperating, frustraing incidents where you can’t really be sure what was going on or what happened. Who do you believe? Did the kid go get the gun because he felt threatened? Or was he intending to threaten someone else with it? Why did the other kid follow him and take it away? Shucks, for all the details we have here, the other kid may have been trying to keep a friend from making a huge mistake.

Let’s be thankful no one got shot.
