Living while black in America

Louis Vuitton branded trashbags was always going to leave room for confusion.

A black lawyer appeared before a judge; the judge agreed to the lawyer’s motion; the lawyer tuned away … just to be accosted by a police officer who had just seen the judge-lawyer interaction. The police officer (named Dewayne Curry?) demanded to see ID, demanded proof that the lawyer was a lawyer, and detained the black lawyer for ten minutes.

What the holy ever-loving fuck? INSIDE the fucking courtroom??

I wouldn’t call it that… what it is, is an application of the idea that “you lost more, you get more aid”, except based strictly on financial loss.

The problem with it is that of course the wealthy are going to lose more overall, even if the percentage is the same. Which I’m sure it’s not.

And that doesn’t even take into account the relative worth- some multi-millionaire having to spend $100,000 to renovate their house doesn’t have the same relative impact as some working class person having to pay $5000 to fix their house.

It’s not really racially oriented, except that minorities typically are less well off financially than white people. But poor whites get just as screwed as anyone else with this scheme.

I think similar sorts of reasoning were used for the actual, no-shit redlining of the early and mid 20th. I don’t think we need to be shy in calling this sort of thing out. Maybe it’s not an exclusively racism/bias based policy, but it’s reasonable to suspect that it’s at least partially based on racism/racial bias.

Black guy refused for city manager position by mayor because he’s black:

Also, unsolicited, a city councilman offers this nugget: “I’m a Christian and my Christian beliefs are you don’t do interracial marriage. That’s the way I was brought up and that’s the way I believe,” he said. “I have black friends, I hired black people. But when it comes to all this stuff you see on TV, when you see blacks and whites together, it makes my blood boil because that’s just not the way a Christian is supposed to live.”

I’m guessing that confederate bibles say different things than the ones I’ve seen?

^Holy Crap. It reads like something on The Onion.

In my experience, this sort of comically ignorant racism is extremely common in the South (and possibly elsewhere). People that really, genuinely think that it’s not racist to think that interracial marriage is evil, or that a black person shouldn’t be hired because they’re black and the town “might not be ready” for a black manager, etc., and are genuinely shocked and offended when someone points out how racist this is.

Or to claim that such beliefs are Christian.

I thought the same thing. Bible!cite please ?

Had some jackass woman on twitter tell me that racism doesn’t exist anymore, it was ‘solved’ in the 60’s and 70’s and that black people today have more opportunities than white people because of Affirmative Action.

I blocked her like I’d block someone ranting about alien abductions or sovereign citizen lunacy. You can’t fix that kind of stupid and there’s no point arguing with it.

This is why you shouldn’t get your kids vaccinated. It causes racism.

Indeed. I used to vacation in the south. I thought that by spending my vacation dollars in the USA I was doing a good thing. Then I had a double whammy happen in Hilton Head, South Carolina. First, there was a “parade” of pick-up trucks flying confederate flags in support of that flag. The people were screaming racial epithets as they drove up and down the main drag.

During that same trip, I was talking to the little 5 year old daughter of the guy who managed the condos where we were staying. She was so darn cute. When she found out we were from Pennsylvania, she told us that her daddy told her Yankees were all n***** lovers. :frowning:

That was it for me. I now vacation in the Caribbean.

Should’ve picked Scandinavia, just to prove her daddy wrong.

I wonder if they’re aware that Ruth was an ancestor of Jesus and that only happened because Ruth {and before I mention this, let’s hope that mayor doesn’t get the vapors} entered into a mixed-race marriage.

I’m also willing to bet real money that mayor in Georgia has a lot less Black friends than he did just a few days ago.

“The city isn’t ready for this” = “Hey, I’m not racist! It’s the city that’s racist! If it were up to me, I’d totally support black people!”

“It goes against my Christian beliefs” = “Hey, I’m not racist! It’s God that’s racist! If it were up to me, I’d totally support black people!”

Yeah, well I’m guessing he has a lot of black ex-friends now.

As someone who grew up in the South, oh yes, I remember that one: “Well I ain’t tryin to be racist or nuthin, but I’m just not sure that our people here are ready for this sorta thing.” It’s as if the bigoted city council members were afraid a black city manager would start a race war. Right down to the “We had to discriminate against him for his own good - you know, to protect him.”:rolleyes::rolleyes:

No, they discriminated against him because they don’t want to change. They want the freedom to say racist things and to be racist and not have to worry about offending anyone or people being disturbed by their bigoted, intolerant attitudes. And most of all, the fear of all fears, they wouldn’t want this black guy talking about what a great community it is to live and work in and invite all of his hordes of black invaders into their peaceful little white Christian community. Even worse, what if one of these little mongols’ black teenage sons wants to date one of their white princesses?! ZOMG!!!

Racist f*ckers.

Remember Sandra Bland, a woman who allegedly killed herself after being detained during a traffic stop?

4 years later, we get secret cell phone footage from her arrest.

If you weren’t suspicious about her “suicide” beforehand, maybe you should be now.

What on that video indicates that her death wasn’t a suicide?
