A few notes I wanted to add to this: the FBI and the MBI are investigating. I would expect murder charges for at least some of the officers. I also notice that there are protests and police are using tear gas. It’s ok to take guns into a state capitol and intimidate lawmakers, but protest - well, hold on there.

So the octoid is still pounding that “all they have to do is migrate to another country” nonsense, huh? Look, fool. Migrating from a place that does not require an exit visa is simple. The issue is migrating to another place. That other place very well may have requirements attached to incoming prospective citizens, not to mention the logistics of getting there.
Question somewhat related to this thread: from coverage of incidents like this, I found out there are a few groups who advocate abolition of the police and prisons. This is usually secondhand, so I don’t know any names. What do they generally advocate as a replacement? Something similar to what’s in place now, except built from the ground up to not be racist and such? Or something completely different? Or nothing at all?
I’m tired of cops who kill people being fired they need to be prosecuted with extreme prejudice, the cop who held his knee to the guy’s neck should get the death penalty and the cop who just stood there should get life as it was his duty to use deadly force if necessary to prevent that man’s murder. Bet that won’t happen though. It’s sad that it takes a near race riot and FBI investigation for the mere possibility that a murdering pig cop is brought to justice.
Good question. The system we had before police and prisons was based on the community getting together and killing the people that it decided needed killing. Which historically didn’t work out so well for black people.
In my opinion, that’s not the issue. It shouldn’t matter if other countries were welcoming people in with open arms. The issue is nobody should feel they have to leave this country because they can’t get fair and equal treatment here.
It should be replaced with care, of course! On a more serious note, this is one of those far-left ideas (at least, I always seem to hear it from the far left) that I don’t think works in the real world. If someone wanted to take the pro-abolition side, I think it could make a pretty interesting GD thread.
Of course that’s true. It just seems unlikely that in a nation full of people who either worship the state (the left) or, bizarrely the state’s enforcers (the right) that justice and accountability are going to be universal.
Looting Target probably isn’t a good first step in the quixotic battle either.
