Liz Phair's New Album

So Liz Phair has a new album out. Has anyone already bought it? If so wadja think?

PS Favorite Liz Phair Lyrics:

It’s nice to be liked, but it is better by far to get paid.

There’s no need for Lucifer to fall if he had learned to keep his mouth shut.

Because secretly I’m timid.

I’m not a Liz Phair fan, butPitchforkmedia (I know, I know), gave the new album a solid 0.0.

Sorry for intruding, but I read the review this morning and it kind of stuck with me.

The New York Times panned it pretty hard as well.

Oh well, it’s too bad because Exile in Guyville is such a phenomenal album. I’ll probably buy this one too, just because. I saw the video this morning on VH1 and it was quite poppy but not intolerably so.

Favorite Liz Phair line is probably “I want all that stupid old shit/Like letters and sodas.”

She must be running low on funds.

All I’ve heard from it is the cut they’ve been playing on the radio and so far my thought is that the album better come with a handwritten apology.

I was so excited to hear about a new album, too :frowning:

I caught a magazine article saying that the same people who produced this new album product Avril Lavigne.

sigh
Exile to Guyville is still one of my faves.
“I can feel it in my bones, I’m gonna spend another year alone”

product? ahem PRODUCED.
Apparently they produced my preview abilities as well. Jesus.

She was on Leno last night with a song that was truly unmemorable.

If anyone’s curious, all the critics I’ve read have really savaged this album.

I bought it last night. I’ve listened to it three times. It will not be necessary for me to retire my copy of Exile in Guyville. Let me get back to you after I’ve listened to it a couple more times.

(Entertainment Weekly gave it a fairly positive review.)

Favorite line was “It’s true that i stole your lighter and it’s also true that i lost the map. but when you said that I wasn’t worth talking to I had to take your word on that.”.

Also referring to someone as “fucking like a volcano” is pretty damn vivid in a great way.

I’m going to see her in concert next month. Will be interesting to see if she flogs the new or old stuff. NYTimes was pretty brutal on her new album.

Yeah, I don’t always listen to pitchforkmedia.com, since they’re extremely snobby, but 0.0 is pretty solid. I’m wary. And then after hearing that the Matrix not only produced, but wrote at least one song on the album, I don’t think I’ll exactly be seeking out tracks from this one.

Looks like it was four songs, actually.

I’ve heard “Why Can’t I”, and I was pretty horrified. I love Liz Phair, but I never would have recognized it as her. I hope that this pop thing works for her, but if that first single is any indication, I won’t be buying this album.
