Are there any points of interest or events that are close to you that you have never visited? They can be cultural, historical or just touristy. I thought about this when something came up on my feed about the renactment of Washington crossing the Delaware that happens each year. I’m reasonably close to the crossing site and the state park that is there. I have never been to the reenactment.
Half mile(crow flies) to the county fairgrounds. Never attended the county fair.
Two touristy spots: The Mystery Spot in Santa Cruz, and the Garlic Festival in Gilroy. Both are within 30-45 minutes. Ain’t never been there but they tell me it’s nice.
What you talkin’ 'bout?
I am the local attraction.
(At least the grandkids think so)
Really not much here. We live close-ish to a State Park. Been to it. I’ve never camped out there. Doubt I ever would’ve. It’s very tiny. No amenities near.
There’s a ghost light that’s nearish me. Famous. “The GurdonLight” if y’all wanna go look. It was on one of the ghost hunters shows.
I’ve never went to see. Everyone around here says they saw it as a teen. My Daddy wasn’t letting that happen. We had GurdonLight babies born, to an amorous teens every year I was in highschool
I’ve driven through Dealey Plaza because it’s one of the main roads to get into downtown Dallas. I haven’t been to the 6th flood museum though.
Not been to Lone Star Park (horse racing). Probably some other tourist sites in Dallas county.
I don’t think there’s anything* in the Fort Worth area that I haven’t been to, and I’ve dragged others to many of them.
*that’s been around for more than 5 years.
New Hampshirite here,
I never been to the top of NH’s highest peak–Mount Washington (6288 feet) and there is BOTH a railroad(Mount Washington Cog Railway) and a car road (Mount Washington Auto Road) leading to the summit.
I never been to Saint-Gaudens National Historical Park—NH’s only site owned by The National Park Service.
I never been to Santa’s Village–a Christmas themed amusement park in Jefferson NH. Or Story Land amusement park in Glen NH. Or Water Country in Portsmouth NH.
The one most people find weird is I never been to an ocean beach or swam in the ocean,
Literally lived across the street from this plantation where the occupants wrote all over the walls. Never went.
I feel guiltier that I’ve never gone to the most notorious pizza place in town, though I’ve lived in the area over twenty years.
I’ve never gone up in the CN Tower in Toronto. No particular reason.
Have lived in metro Detroit for 25 years and love the 60s sound that came out of Motown but have yet to go to the Motown Museum.
I’m close to our fairgrounds but I’ve been to the fair multiple times. The kids liked the rides. Now that they are older I like the food and looking at the animals.
For 20 years, I lived two blocks from the Lincoln cottage in DC, where Lincoln wrote the Emancipation Proclamation. I never made it there.
There’s a small local zoo a mile from my house. I’ve lived here 15 years and I’ve never visited it.
The Mystery Spot is pretty cheesy, but worth a visit if for no other reason than to say you’ve been there. And The Garlic Festival…It was fun but extremely crowded–the best way to enjoy it was to go with friends so you could order lots of food and everyone could get a taste. You’ve kind of missed your chance, though, it’s been moved to Stockton and renamed the California Garlic Festival.
The only “attractions” in the south bay I can think of that I haven’t been to are the Intel Museum and the Happy Hollow Zoo.
I have been there; I won’t go back again. It used to be you could stand on the bridge & watch it; that ended, now you can only walk across the bridge, can’t really stop, & the walkway is on the south side of the bridge & they cross on the north side so you don’t even get a good unobstructed view with all of the girders in the truss bridge, & both sides have trees so you’re watching it thru branches…& people’s heads unless you get there real early.
I’m guessing what came up in your feed is the practice, which happened a few weeks ago but it seems like I only hear about it after it happened. The reenactment is always Christmas day & draws a large crowd.
@Bullitt, Do you have a Maserati; does it do 185?
Lived near Washington DC for more than 20 years.
Never been to the top of the Washington Monument, inside the White House one the Capitol.
Used to be nice, but it was way way too crowded last time i went.
Oh, okay.
Both are pretty nice.
I did spend a few years in the area and visit when I can. Although I would like to do the White House and Capitol tours I’ve never made the attempt to arrange it.
Never made it to a Renaissance Faire, although it’s only 40 minutes away.
I haven’t been to a Toronto Raptors game or a Maple Leafs game. I haven’t been to Casa Loma either (an old-timey mansion that’s a tourist attraction for some reason).
I live 2500 miles away and I’ve been to the Gilroy Garlic Festival! First time this Clevelander ever had garlic fries. YUM!
For me, this isn’t a local tourist spot but there’s a Cleveland-area chain restaurant called Mr. Hero. Even before I started having gastro issues as an adult, I never had a desire for a hot buttered cheesesteak or a Romanburger (two hamburger patties side-by-side on a hoagie roll, with Italian meats and cheese). There’s one in my town. I’ve never eaten there.
