I know a black guy. He has a Pearl Jam T-Shirt.
Is his name Ben Harper?
I think Local H is okay. “High Fivin’ Motherfucker” is a pretty fun song.
Nope. “Pack Up the Cats” is still better than anything released by The Dandy Warhols, The Black Eyed Peas, or Good Charlotte. Ever.
Also, Crazytown. I hope they go back to Bermuda or Asia or wherever the fuck they were from.
90’s rock with ‘token black guy’: King’s X. Who, incidentally, rocked harder than many bands I can name off the top of my head.
VCO3, what do you consider “good” music? Local H may not be awesome or even a step above mediocre, but they suck far less than a lot of other, shittier, bands.
Los Angeles. And yes, they disintegrated.
Fishbone? Hootie and the Blowfish?
Mmm…I’ll take that into account during my next friendly debate over the existence of God.
If you mean to say that Soundgarden was a band with a “token black guy”, you’re wrong. Kim Thayil’s parents are from India.
In the early days, Soundgarden also had an Asian guy (bassist Hiro Yamamoto).
Does Rage Against the Machine count? I know they’re not proper alternative, but to my knowledge, nobody was using the term “rap metal” when they came out. They certainly had a black guy.
Christ, dude. I’d rather get stabbed in the kidneys with icepicks than listen to Local H, but I’m pretty sure that in absolute terms, I’ve been in bands that were worse.
He wasn’t saying that - he was addressing the musical styles in reference to sevendust being a metal band rather than an “alternative” band. It was a sort of “pick the one that doesnt’ belong” illustration that had nothing to do with race.
They had two, the lead singer and the guitarist.
De La Rocha is Latino.
Is it wrong that I have two Local H songs on my car MP3 mix: Bound for the Floor and California Songs (the better of the two)?
I don’t know enough about the rest of their music to hate them, but I liked what I heard.
(And fuck New York too)
The only two songs I know from them are Bound to the floor which I love, and All the kids are right which I hate, so I guess I’m 50/50 about them.
I love Splender, but calling them popular is a huge stretch.
Their CDs have sold what, a couple dozen copies combined?
I’m still eagerly awaiting the third one though.
