Locke & Key on Netflix - anyone else watching? (possible spoilers)

I’m going to go back and rewatch a few scenes to see what was actually stated and what I assumed.

I do like that they changed enough from the comics that despite having read them I didn’t quite know what was coming. I knew the major beats, but not the specifics.

I rewatched the scenes in question and I’m cool with it. It was actually clear and I just didn’t pay close attention. The logistics work out fine.

We just finished watching it - one episode per night for the past two weeks.
My wife and I really enjoyed it. A bit juvenile in places, but good story line- other than the one plot point which had the characters make an obviously bad decision (but no worse than some of the stupid plot points in The Expanse).
I’m looking forward to season two.

Bumping this now that season 2 is out.

I’ve watched most of it. My impression is that it’s still pretty good, but less good than season 1, and they massively messed up the pacing of the second half, which really dragged. I think they had about 6 episodes of content and stretched it to 10.

I’ll spoiler some specifics if others have watched it and are interested in continuing the discussion.

we started watching season 2, got lost, so have gone back and are re-watching season 1 again.

So, Defintely interested in keeping this thread unlocked.

They just announced that the third season of the show is going to be the last, which is kind of a drag. I mean, I’m all for shows that don’t want to linger until they’re depressing shells of what they used to be, but this is a pretty sturdy concept and I think they could’ve safely gotten to at least a fourth season. Maybe they’ll favor us with an expanded final season.

I got to say, though, that is a pretty weak intro. Poor guy! Stephen King’s son, you say? Which one?

Always, always better to be a Nick Harkaway, Robert Galbraith, etc., and even then that usually does not last.

Joe Hill, and he’s doing pretty well for himself, really.

My point exactly: there is a reason his work is not attributed to “Joe King”. Though to do the job right we should not know who “Joe Hill” is beyond a carefully fabricated online bio that does not link him to Stephen King.

I had read the first volume of the comic when Kindle was offering free reading. I thought it was well told and drawn but I wasn’t interested in getting into another story about evil, murdering ghosts.

Just started watching season 1 because what the heck. I’m up to episode 6 and my main takeaway is that these kids are fucking morons and deserve to die.

I especially hate Kinsey and Bodie.

What is your point, exactly? Not being snarky; I actually don’t get the point you’re trying to make.

He chose ‘Hill’ as a last name because he wanted to succeed without the help of his famous father, and if I recall correctly he did become a successful author in his own right before it became public who his father was.

That was the exact point. Hill ≠ King (then again, King is an extremely common name in the U.S.), and people enjoy the work of “Joe Hill”.

I’m on Season 3 episode 3. I hate Bodie even more. And now I also hate Tyler too. Kinsey is the tolerable one for now.

There are so many instances in which this story is basically an idiot plot. Nothing would have happened except for the fact that the protagonists behaved like idiots.

What exactly is the issue with Joe King/Joe Hill? This is a person with two names. There shouldn’t be a problem with using either or both of them. This isn’t a “dead name” situation.

Yep. Bodie and his mom find a key to a snow globe. “Should we wait for Kinsey?” She asks. Bodie’s all like “nah, what’s the worst that can happen?” They end up unleashing a pair of evil witches or demons or whatever, and Bodie almost freezes to death.

Cut to the wedding day. I think merely days after the snow globe incident. Bodie finds another key, this one to a Grandfather clock. He says “I must not try out this key until I consult with my mother and Kinsey, maybe ask my uncle if he knows how the key works, and we can proceed with caution”. HAHAHA, of course he doesn’t do that! He proceeds with no hesitation to use the key and randomly spin some dials he knows absolutely nothing about and sends himself back to Colonial times with no clue how to get back to the future (fortunately he, by pure chance, chose a 5 minute round-trip).

Bodie is a straight-up moron

I completed the series. I’m somewhat happy that the resolution was todestroy all the keys and give up magic. Only I wish they had thrown Bodie into the portal before it closed. After all that had happened, he still wanted to keep it all going!

And of course when he uses it again, he does it in the absolute worst way possible, completely ignoring Duncan who is pleading for him to stop what he is doing. And he does it for no good reason at all, just to gloat at Dodge. I wanted to murder him in that scene.

Nina is a truly terrible parent. Surely the first thing she should have done after ‘remembering’ magic was to lock(e) all the keys away somewhere safe so as her moronic kids couldn’t get hold of them. Instead (and maybe there’s something to read in here with her being an addict herself) she’s basically enabling them to do stupid things themselves. Plus, she shows absolutely no concern when they are in mortal danger, or presumed dead.

Would you believe I do actually enjoy this show, despite the high level of stupid (which is kind of a defining YA characteristic, I guess).

OB

Just watched that episode last night. Yeah, I think Bodie is the biggest fictional f**k-up of all time. Not sure who he dethrones though- plenty of candidates. Gilligan?
