IIRC, the last time King of the Hill was up for renewal, Judge was working on Idiocracy, and Fox was promoting the film, then when Judge agreed to do more seasons of KotH, Fox just fucked him on Idiocracy. Judge bailed on Beavis and Butthead after MTV dicked him over, so I’m thinking that its probably not so much a cancellation as it is Judge just refusing to renew his contract for the series.
Well, can’t say it didn’t have a fantastic run, I guess. Hell, Bobby should be in his mid-20s by now! And for a show that’s been on the air for that long, they still manage to keep things fresh more often than not.
I’ll believe it when I see it. King of the Hill has been on the verge of cancellation so many times that I think the only thing that can kill it is a stake through the heart (preferably Peggy’s).
That said, it’s been quite a bit better in recent years and I’ll be sad to see it go.
It will be sadly missed, something that was rarely laugh out loud funny to me yet over all I just found it danged funny.
This is disappointing. I always thought this show was a million times better than any of the other cartoon shows. I think I just liked the different kind of humor in it, unlike the kind found in The Simpsons or Family Guy.
It was real life humor. It wasn’t fantastically over-the-top like other cartoons. That was its charm. You probably have neighbors like the Hills, the Soupanisonphones, or even the Gribbles. King of the Hill was a good, solid, dependable show, and way underappreciated.
ETA: The Cleveland Show?
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
I havent seen a lot of episodes, but I enjoyed KotH because it wasn’t going to the shock value/grossout/popculture jokes that Family Guy (which I will admnit That I hate and has a really stupid name to boot) and the Simpsons (which I haven’t watched in awhile, but while funny has worn out it welcome in manty ways). At any rate, I think KotH was a good show and I hope they go out being remembered that way.
If Mike Judge wants to make another show he can contact me. I’ve got an idea about a guy that *********************…
American Dad isn’t fit to lick Hanks boots. Still, 13 years is plenty. Even Seinfeld had to end sometime.
Iboota guldern summagun whatcha dune
It had a long run, and was starting to get a little repetitive anyway. I’d like to see Judge try something new.
Damn funny show, though. It’s realism made it stand out from other animated shows. (Though they were stuck in time.)
Fox killed fiddy shows!!!
Dang, I haven’t watched KOTH in a while, but it’s always been one of my all time favorites. Especially the one where Dale found his dad was gay, or when Hank had “Diminished Glutial Syndrome” . Or when Hank inadvertantly became a pimp.
All shows must end, and it’s good to see it go before it starts to suck (I think “The Simpsons” hit THAT wall years ago), but we’ll still miss you, Hill family. Have an Alamo on me. Yep.
May Bobby continue to love fruit pies and prop comedy.
May Khan keep kissing up to Ted Wassonasong.
And may Hank continue to sell propane and propane accessories. And love the Cowboys, even though he was born in the Bronx.
Great show and will miss it. My favourite show on TV. Funny, charming and many, many times better than anything Seth McFarlane has ever done.
You’re blind! Blind!
This is clearly a conspiracy by the Trilateral Commission to take over the American airwaves and replace all programming with lone gunman, pro flouride, propaganda!
I better call Octavio.
Nah, they’re gonna put Ow! My balls! on TV.
I’ve always wondered “Why why why? Does Fox hate Mike Judge?”
I haven’t seen KoTH promoted on the Sunday lineup in like two years. They (the Fox people) killed Idiocracy. (It’s not perfect, but it’s pretty damn funny.)
I live in Houston, people. A show like King of the Hill should be talked up.
My sweet lord! Any show that has the line “Dallas is just full of crackheads and debutantes” should become the Official Animated Show of Houston!
And I still find it fun and funny. Especially since they played one of my favorite eps for Halloween on the local affiliate.
The Junie Harper anti Halloween one.
The line: <quoting scripture battle>
“Get out of my house! Exodus!” Delivered by Hank, is still one of my favorite animation lines ever.
I, too, will miss KotH. The show never contained jokes. It was well-thought out characters put in situations going through their motion. Great stuff.
BTW, Bobby gave up prop comedy a few seasons ago. This explains his reluctance to participate as cheerleader in the powder puff football game last season.
If they hated Mike Judge, they wouldn’t have put his show on TV for thirteen years.
They didn’t hate him as much as they liked the money he made them.
I never liked KotH but I feel your loss.
But look on the bright side. Mike Judge is a talented guy and we can look forward to anything else he does. Maybe another movie? Maybe another show? I feel that it’s about time he laid KotH to rest anyway and start working on other stuff. It’s almost like the Simpsons in a way. Every time I watch the show I think it’s good but I’m never interested in making room for it. It’s just so damn old and I’m tired of the concept. The Simpsons needs to die too. If only they could bring back futurama…
