RIP King of the Hill

KoTH is one of my three favorite shows, along with The Simpsons and The Price is Right. I agree that Fox does a horrible job of promoting it.

…not necessarily. re: Scooby Doo, Looney Tunes, ect.

There is no logical reason why a cartoon series must end. Sure, people will tire of the plot, characters, scenes - but that’s why we have a new generation of noobs every twenty or so years to continue “the franchise”.

Variety is reporting that ABC might pick up King of the Hill.

One of those shows that I rarely looked for and was never addicted to but every single time I stopped and watched it absolutely cracked me up. I know every single character it was patterned after and Judge nailed 'em perfect. Like those two old, dusty cans of beer sitting out in the garage fridge, you didn’t have to frequently partake to just feel good about knowing they were there.

Well, yeah, that’s sort of the point of a business arrangement.

I’ve never understood why Fox gets ripped so often for their handling of Internet-popular shows. Gosh, they cancelled King of the Hill after 13 seasons - that sucks if you’re a King of the Hill fan, but what other network would even have TRIED King of the Hill back in 1997? I bet you most other networks would never have let that concept get past the first pitch meeting. “Well, it’s a crudely animated series about a family in Texas. There’s nothing wacky or bizarre about it, it’s just sort of a low-key sitcom. No talking animals or anything. What? No, no, it’s really not anything like the Simpsons.” NBC or CBS would have just given a shitty sitcom to some standup comic, and we’d have a seven-year run of a Carrot Top sitcom or some such thing.

Fox deserves some credit; they try shows most other networks would never have touched, though in the last few years the other networks have started to accept some original stuff in an effort to keep up (I can’t imagine ABC airing “Pushing Daisies” ten years ago.)

So Bobby may get to enjoy this life a little longer before he has to go back to being Lama Sanglug? That’s nice. Reincarnation has to wear on you after a while.

well judging by last week’s episode it’s overdue. a shame, really…

I never liked it.

Animation permits you to do the fantastic, thing you could never do in a RL production.

Judge never even tried stretching the limits. He coulda done it with live actors.

That’s one of the things I love about the show.

You mean like every other animated anything ever? Yeah, that’s stretching the limits alright!

Boomhauer! I can’t read a darn thing you wrote! Uhhhhh… Gosh Darnit! I accidently put on Peggy’s glasses.

You’re kidding me. At one point Hank goes to a christian rock festival. He sees at lest two bands before he finds the one Bobby is performing with. All the bands are shown in detail, as is the crowd and a lot of other scenes before the festival. There is no way a live action show would have the budget for that.

Even Looney Toons went to space, or created magical characters, or amazing settings.

And Futurama did that, & still came across as great characters.

Like keeping the cast the same age for 13 seasons?

Sigh. Time to go cry now.

It ruined ‘The Wonder Years’.

Exactly! They go places! They go *outside[/I! Each show has like 20 locations. Despite being animated it seems a whole lot more real than most other live action shows.

Yeah, that’s my point. Every other animated show or movie does that kind of stuff. KotH is unique by not doing it. That’s one of the things that makes it great. It’s not like everything else.

If being dull is different, sure.

Two words: Buckley’s Angel
Other than that, I’m with the others-I liked the fact that it was a normal sitcom-only animated.
