Logan. Help answer some questions about it (spoilers).

I watched Logan last night and there are some questions not clearly addressed in the film. I haven’t watched all the previous X-men movies, so those might hold some answers, but from what I can tell even the previous films might not. Here we go.

  1. What happened to all the other X-men?

  2. Why are all the child mutants trying to get to Canada? Is the Canadian army waiting at the border to let them in while also being ready to fight off everyone that’s chasing them?

  3. What exactly happened to Professor X? Is he supposed to be suffering from some unexplained illness, or was this addressed in previous films?

  4. Why was Logan hiding in Mexico? From the way the movie unfolds it’s obvious that the Mexican government is just as complicit as the American government in supporting Transigen, maybe even more so.

Here’s an interview with the director and screenwriter in which they discuss that. There was a scene in Logan with a news report on the incident in Oklahoma City in which 400 people suffered temporary paralysis due to Charles Xavier’s seizure, and how this was similar to an incident a year earlier in Westchester (the location of the school run by Professor X) in which some people died. It’s implied that some or most of the X-Men were killed in that event.

I don’t think it was specified what his illness was, but it appears to be Alzheimer’s or some other degenerative brain disorder.

Edited to add, an existing thread is here.

Also heavily implied by Xavier’s “confession” to the not Wolverine right before he got shanked. We don’t have enough info to answer 2 and 4, but before the escape it did not seem like they were very much interested in hunting Logan.

I missed your second question. In the movie, I think we’re told that there is a safe haven for mutants in Canada, if they can just get there.

No idea why the fire lookout station at the end just happened to be at the coordinates mentioned in an old comic book.
