Logitech Webcam C600 No Longer Compatible With Skype?

I purchased a logitech 2 C600 webcam many years ago so i could use skype.

I use it to make phone call and do video calling. I haven’t used it much and then i saw a message that said this when i clicked on Logitech Vid HD
Dear User,
As of July 1, 2013, this video calling service is no longer available. For an alternative solution, please consider Skype.
Thank you.
I have a few questions about this. Does this mean my webcam from logitech cannot be used with skype anymore to make phone call and video call? Im confused b/c of this statement.
There was also instruction that you could trade this webcam for a better one a c920 webcam pro. But would i still be able to use this webcam with skype or not?
I’m confused because this is the message but they mention something about revue. So does this affect me or not b/c i only use my webcam for skype chat and video?

Two things have changed:

In reading your post at face value, you were using a video service other than Skype, that now no longer exists. It recommends you use Skype.

And who buys webcams anymore? Even cheap laptops have built in cameras now.

Perhaps people with desktops?

Have you actually tried to use it with Skype? The ‘error’ message you quote implies that it would work, but that you are actually attempting to run something other than Skype when you click whatever it is that you are clicking. Possibly you are running an old version of Skype that needs updating (probably for reasons that have nothing to do with your camera). You might want to check out the Skype web site, and download and install the latest version. (Normally it updates itself automatically, but if you have not run it for ages it may be that your version is so old that it needs to updated manually.)

If the camera works outside of Skype, and if Skype runs ok on your computer, it seems unlikely that they would not work together. Skype is not particularly fussy about what sort of webcam you use. However, you may possibly need to update your camera’s drivers. You should be able to download updates (if there are any) from Logitech’s site.

Here and here are Skype help pages for getting a camera to work with Skype (for that minority of people who have difficulties), but I am not convinced that this is where your real problem lies.

None of my computers (desktops and laptops) have a webcam. Most recently purchased laptop is just 18 months old.

I bought a Logitech webcam in March 2013, and within two months, I got that message. But I don’t need it anymore, so I haven’t tried it.

The message says “Logitech Vid HD” is being discontinued, and they recommend using Skype as an alternative.

There’s nothing in that message indicating that the webcam will or will not work with Skype, but considering Logitech is recommending Skype, it’s safe to assume they did their homework and it’ll work fine.

Why not just download Skype and try it out before panicking? It’s free anyway.
