I have a real junker I need to get rid of. It still runs, but is a mess. Listing on eBay with their insertion fees and end of auction fees seems silly for a car that might at most bring in $250 or so.
Whether classified or auction format, I care not. If nothing viable turns up, I’ll just list it in a local rag.
ftr, I’m not spamming for my car here, just asking for site advice.
Unless it’s a car with a cult following, there’s absolutely no point in advertising it beyond your home city. People looking to buy a junker aren’t real likely to look anywhere other than the local paper’s classifieds. Some places have smaller ‘Buy and Sell’ type rags with cheaper classified ads than the mainstream paper, though, which might be worth checking out.
TraderOnline does both. They’re the ones with all those Auto Trader magazines you see at 7-11. $29 will get NCB an ad that runs both in his local magazine and on the Net for three weeks, $44 for 12 weeks, and $69 for until the car is sold. Net-only ads start at $15 (not $25 like I said earlier).
Also, his local paper most likely has a deal with Cars.com to carry those ads on the Net. If he does go the newsprint route he’d probably still be getting national exposure.
