So, any opinions?

I’ve tried to stay out of political discussions so far, but this is beginning to piss me off.
I’m constantly getting these little ‘Gore is an idiot’ smearazoid e-mails from my fundie relatives. None of them ever cite verifiable references.
I got one recently proporting to be stupid things Al said, at least two of which quotes I distinctly remember coming out of the mouth of Dan Quail. (remember him?)
Apparently someone, somewhere is setting these little behind-the-back-character-assasination smear missles loose, depending on the lamentable fact that many people will believe anything that they read to be true.
It aint necessarily so.
Having said that, let me say this:
Let’s assume he did say that. What does that prove?
He’s slightly dyslexic?
He depends on his speech writers to get their fact straight too much?
He was in zombie-speech-reading mode? (He probably gives a hundred speechs a month).
George W. can’t open his mouth without putting his foot in it, and the Republicans are jumping on every little nit to be picked about Gore.
Ignore it. It’s not worth the electrons it’s written on.
[flame off]
BTW, do you know how to tell if a politician is lying?
His mouth is moving.
It is, not surprisingly, false…

Cool. I was wondering about the validity of the quote.
O
vidi vici veni!
I suppose that, if it ever actually happened, the event might inspire in me an emotion vaguely resembling amusement, but probably not. Really, now. Who cares if politicians can quote scripture or name chapters and verses of the Bible? If I were a public figure asked to state my favorite Bible verse, I would quote Mark 12:17, as it would be most relevant to the situation.
“And Jesus answering said unto them, Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s. And they marveled at him.”
Is is a crime to make an honest error, like reversing a bible quote passage reference? Give me a break. If that’s how people make their political decisions (take THIS to the polls with you!) then we live in a scarier world then I thought.
I put the kibosh on these inane political notes as soon as they started filtering in. I find them insulting and annoying at best, malicious at worst.

I am mortified to admit that I did not, until this time, know of the existance of the snopes site.
Thank you!
You are my pal, like it or not.
