Just read an excellent book by Richard Roeper called Hollywood Urban Legends , which goes into (heh) the in the butt Bob (Olga!) and lots more.
He mentions that Gore was once accused of misquoting a bible verse, but doesn’t say more.
So…whats the straight dope on that?
According to Snopes it wasn’t so much a misquote as naming a bible verse that doesn’t exist.
But that’s not what the cited Snopes article says. It says that (a) it was simply a matter of transposing the chapter and verse numbers, resulting in a reference to a less appropriate (but extant) verse; and (b) it wasn’t Gore who said it at all–it was Bush senior.
This is one reason I rarely trust the supposed “quotes” I get sent via e-mail. (Laugh at them yes; trust them, no.) I have also seen the same quote attributed to many different people. Snopes is a good resource for this sort of thing.
