London-Area Dopers: I'll be visiting in mid-October

I can make the evening - around 7ish?

Any other London Dopers coming/interested who haven’t posted in this thread? I was sure there were more than this…

Caveat: the ‘free entry’ aspect is something of a well-known con. Get one of these passes if you think it’s worth it in terms of travel. Forgt the ‘free entry’ part. In some cases, the attractions are free to get into anyway (like many major London museums and art galleries), in other cases the ‘free’ entry is conditional on paying a certain amont for food and drink (more expensive in London than anywhere else in the world) and in the remaining few cases the entry fee is next to nothing anyway, so the ‘saving’ is minimal.

Sadly my mate has a family emergency and is out of town, so I can’t make it.
I guess this means I’ll have to watch England v South Africa after all…

I hope you have an enjoyable time!

There certainly are…although remember that there’s a lot of Brits who post here regularly yet aren’t in London  …it’s possible that I’ll be in London village at the right time, although unlikely, to be honest. More likely to be up north, with honest folk.

So is it just gonne be a transplanted Yank and a tourist in the local on Friday? Come on, people! There must be more drinkers out there.

Or did the Rugby at the weekend just take it all out of you? Saving yourselves for the Saturday arse kicking you’re gonna get from SA?

Sorry, on review, gonna be three of us. But the taunts still stand!

Make that 4.

And the arse kicking will be handed out courtesy of some grumpy old men in white.

I guess **Gaderene ** can get confused over what we are on about.

Taunt all you want.

  1. Australia and (David Campese in particular) tried it last time - then some 'elderly orcs in white turned up…
  2. Martin Johnson says it motivates our lads. Apparently the clippings are pinned on the dressing room wall…

I’d be up for coming - so that makes 5 of us at least. GomiBoy - couldn’t you have picked a place that was a little less in the middle of nowhere?

Hey, it’s actually the near side of the middle of nowhere, I’ll have you know, not right in the middle!

It’s actually my local, is why I picked it… better ideas didn’t seem to be forthcoming

Well I guess the (long long long) walk from Putney central will do me good, I suppose…

Surely there must be more London dopers out there who can make it. Come on people, shake a leg!

Just a quick thought - how exactly do we identify each other? Is there an SDMB secret handshake :stuck_out_tongue: ?

Could someone put a sign up, maybe?

I’m 31 years old, 6’3", brown hair, glasses. I’ll try to link to a picture tonight.

GomiBoy - you know the pub, could you suggest an area that we aim for to sit in?

I will be wearing a suit :stuck_out_tongue:

Ah, I see you are not in the SDMB Inner Circle. For a very reasonable fee, you get:

  • 3.1416% off your next SDMB subscription
  • an e-mail every time Cecil posts a new column (i.e. not a Classic)
  • a copy of the much loved children’s book ‘Where’s Cecil?’
  • a tinfoil hat
  • a model of an aeroplane on a treadmill
  • a free pass to insult one Moderator of your choice without any consequences

and best of all

  • the secret handshake

N.B. When non-members of the SDMB Inner Circle meet, it is customary for them to wear a homemade tinfoil hat. This ensures both easy recognition (and that nobody outside the SDMB will talk to them).

Well, I’ll likely be sitting in the fireplace area if I get there earlier enough… but if not, will be somewhere in the main pub perhaps near the tall seats (you can’t miss them)

So…
Friday (19th October), 7ish, The Telegraph, Putney
(by the Fireplace / tall chairs / look for the tourist and transplanted yank)

and 5 people…

Last ever hopeful call for any more (willing-to-go-to-Putney-on-a-Friday-night-and-don’t-mind-a-walk) London Dopers, or failing that: Dopers in London?

Or do we have to drink for you in your absence  ?

Don’t forget the pictures!

I’ve decided I’m going to bring a sign - just makes it easier that way.
