London Dopers - Refresh my Memory?

This is a stupid question, but please bear in mind that it has been nearly 25 years since I’ve been to London. (I miss it and I’d love to move there permanently, for better or for worse, but that’s another topic.)

Anyway, a recent magazine advertisement left me wondering – how close is Trafalgar Square to Parliament?

Pretty near. They are at opposite ends of Whitehall which is about (maybe) 300 yards long. If you stand at Nelly’s column you can see Parliament just down the street. Would take you about 5 minutes to walk it.

Here’s a map of the area. Trafalgar Square is arrowed, the Houses of Parliament are at the bottom right corner of the screen.

Here’s a webcam view of the square.

Did this actual walk recently. Five minutes is about correct.

Is there some point in Trafalgar where you can stand and see Big Ben? I’m sorry to be repetitive – I’m just wondering if the ad I saw was an actual picture or a clever Photoshopping job.

I really need to visit London again like tomorrow. British Airways has some excellent deals right now… Hmm…

Yes.

Thanks, APB! That’s roughly the same image as the magazine ad.

I’m talking to Mr. TeaElle (when he wakes up) about booking a little spring trip…
