London production of Hamilton translates into 7 Olivier Awards

Since Hamilton opened in London, there has been a certain amount of press coverage about how British audiences seem completely unfazed by how George III is portrayed. Indeed, one of its seven Oliviers went to the actor who plays him.

But this isn’t really surprising. As umpteen Dope threads in the past have shown, the standard British attitude to the American War of Independence is one of total indifference.

I think few people here could have identified Hamilton, let alone assessed his significance. If pressed, they might finger him as the guy on the ten-spot, but little else.

If by “here” you mean England then you’re probably right (and I doubt Brits know who’s on US money apart from Washington, Lincoln and maybe Franklin). If perchance you meant this messageboard, then you’d be less so.

I got Hamilton The Revolution, a book of the musical yesterday at my local library, for 50 cents. Quite the Hamilton week!!!
