Can anyone recommend a good book on the history of London’s Underground? I tried looking on Amazon and found one called London Under London, which covers the Underground, but I was hoping for one devoted exclusively to the Underground, rather than just having a section or two about it. Thanks!
I can’t recommend a specific book, but [the London Transport Museum website] has a large range for sale.
I don’t know any books, but there are plenty of enthusiast web sites, many of which look pretty comprehensive to me.
This site has plenty of links, some of which cover the history of the underground.
Isn’t that a political movement?
Try looking for Underground Railways of the World by O.S. Nock for a start.
You might try this webring too. Full of tube sites.
Abandoned Stations has the pictures of … I’ll leave you to guess. For more detail, click here.
A better site is http://www.davros.org/rail/culg/ which has everything anyone could possibly want to know about the tube.
I really enjoyed a book about the changes made to the poster / map of the Underground: “Mr. Beck’s Underground Map” by Ken Garland from 1994. It’s more about style and design etc., but some useful Underground info as well.
