Long live the 80's

I can’t help it. I am happy as a pig in parachute pants. Philly has a new radio station that plays nothing but the 80’s. It’s totally awesome. J Giels band, John Cougar (not that wimp Mellencamp dude), Asia, Flock of Seagulls. I’m in hair band heaven!!!

Chicago has a station like that too. Unfortunately, we here on the south side can’t get it… it drives me insane. Viva 80s!!

80s! 80s!

Don’t cry for me, Flock of Seagulls,
You were supposed to be immortal-
I loved Pet Shop Boys,
And that George Michaels-
When in Rome sang “The Promise”,
and there were The Buggles…

Direct TV has music stations, and one of them is all 80s. I listen to it almost constantly and I LOVE the stuff they play.

Long live the 80s!

I just checked my mp3 directory, and the vast majority (except for the random Frank Sinatra tune) are 80s. And there is a station, Zone105, that plays a LOT of really good 80s music, and most stations have at least an 80s program each day.

Long live Duran Duran!

Was taught when wee not to say anything if you didn’t have something positive to say. This from the same people who lied about the Tooth Fairy.

I work at the extreme outer edge of the radio biz, and '80s ("'80s And More!") is the fashionable format of the moment. Half a dozen major-market stations have flipped to it in the last few weeks, with more rumored to be on the way. So if you love the '80s, they may very well be coming to a station near you (especially if your market has a low-rated, conglomerate-owned Hot AC).

Of course, last year’s hotter-than-hot format was “Jammin’ Oldies,” and you don’t hear about that much anymore…

Geez, you people are lucky.

The only thing I can get around here is “Eighties at Eight”–1 hour of Eighties at 8 pm on Wednesdays.

It’s better than nothing, but… :frowning:

I’m with you all. I can’t wait for the current 70’s trend to die down so the 80’s can rise from the ashes.

(ps - I have more than 500 New Wave 80’s songs in my “New Wave 80’s” mp3 directory - and more than 400 of them are from my own CD’s…)

I want a station like that! One local station has a lunchtime request show that plays mostly 80s stuff…but not entirely, and this is the sort of station that plays a lot of Backstreet Boys and assorted clone groups and Brittney Spears. ICK! Another has, only on Friday, an 80s at 5 show. I was in the shower yesterday washing myself to stupid 80s music. It was so fun.

Not that I have any particularly great memories of the decade. I was a child. But I still like the music.
