As noted above, commenting or liking the picture does nothing. The purpose of those pages is to gather “likes” and comments. The page creator can then sell the page to another business, who changes the page content to whatever they want. The business is now able to start immediately with a page with a large number of likes and comments, which means it shows up in more users’ feeds.

Thank you for FINALLY clearing up what the POINT of these were. I had wondered forever two things:

1. Why would anyone like and type a random word into the comment field?
2. Why would anyone WANT someone to like and type a comment into the comment field?

All makes so much more sense now.

I keep getting these on my FB feed, so I typed “type club into the comment box.” This was the first hit on Google.

I did a bing search via incognito browsing and got this thread too.

I don’t know how deep the search bubble goes, but I expected incognito browsing to bypass it.
I have a friend that does SEO for a living. She understands that fairly well. I’ll try to remember to ask her.
