Look before you post

Continuing the discussion from DOJ/Jack Smith Investigation into Trump and Election Interference, January 6th Insurrection (Indicted 08-01-23):

As a courtesy to other posters, I do three things before posting in a thread:

  1. Catch up to what’s already been posted in a thread.
  2. Check the forum.
  3. Check the thread title.

I still make mistakes, but I stop myself enough to not make too many.

This.

I don’t know how many times I catch myself about to submit a proper Pit post… in a non-Pit forum.

And you see folks getting modded and using that as their explanation a fair bit too.

A place for everything and everything in its place.

Step 1 does not, I hope, necessarily mean reading the entire thread, if you have not been following the thread closely and it is a long thread. If you come across a post you want to respond to, it should be enough to track back a reasonable distance to see what the conversation has been that led up to that post. And anyone pointing out that your point was covered in post 17 of a 100-post thread should do so politely.

  1. Don’t post under the influence of alcohol, sleep deprivation, illness, or anything else that will impair your observational skills or judgment.

(Unless it’s the Pit, then it’s funny. I speak from experience.)
