Passive-aggressive, snide partisan trolling is still trolling. I’ve been posting on the internet since 1994, and I’ve rarely seen a better example of a passive-aggressive troll than Bricker. In fact, I believe I can only think of one, and he was the moderator of a different message board.
Another thing–insincere, ridiculous ideas, when presently calmly, can make people extra-angry. Bricker’s the only poster I’ve ever pitted, because his calm style of trolling is so infuriating sometimes.
I count at least three lawyers in this thread, two of whom did not take Brick’s side…
That said, it is perfectly possible to object to his reckless sourcing without calling him a racist (which Bricker is plainly not and which is a cheap shot).
My familarity with the affiliation agreements is 30 years old and based on another industry, but since no one else has weighed in…
Back in the mid 80’s I worked a stint as a roadie. I won’t go into the sequence of events that led to me, a non-union NYC lighting technician, to get a job on a union tour…it involved a last minute dispute that lead to some people quitting and a lot of resumes, etc being thrown away by a disgruntled office worker but someone suggested that I apply for the job and I got it.
And at virtually every stop around this great land I was given some papers to sign. The gist of them seemed to be that I had to agree to follow the union rules designed to provide a safe workplace regarding work hours, breaks, safety equipment etc…this meant that the non-union people that hired me couldn’t make me work all night or work through breaks or send me climbing without a harness while I was working under their unionized roof.
Honestly, there may have been other provisions in these documents preventing me from using my work experience to claim membership in the Terra Haute or wherever branch of IATSE or whatever town I was in that day but that was pretty irrevelvant to me at the time, If I had wanted an IATSE card I had multiple paths open to me but I chose to take the career in another direction.
And I actually have a union agreement in effect for my current business…one of my part-time employees asked me to sign on so he could get credit for insurance and retirement funds based on the work he did for me and since he pays our side of the dues out of his salary I agreed…no big deal
Bricker is not a passive aggressive troll, if there even is such a thing. He’s a partisan, which is fine. He let it carry him a little too far this time on a story that looked like obvious fiction, but that’s a hazard in the game. Partisanship has it’s places, and as seen in this thread he’s otherwise a standup guy and admitted his mistake. I don’t why the pile on has to turn from a political one into a personal one.
Because this is not the first time he’s pulled this shit, and I’m confident that he won’t learn from this either.
This is great - when I post some partisan bullshit that I’ve failed to fact check, I can also look forward to people stepping in to call me a great guy and ALSO, they’ll defend my entire profession! It’s gonna be win-win for me!
He’s repeatedly thrown fits over people jumping to conclusions that he disagrees with, because they were only using news stories and that isn’t enough evidence, you have to get all the facts first before you can have an opinion.
Good on you Bricker for owning up to being wrong. Bad on you for leaping to unwarranted conclusions, especially when you criticize others for doing so on many occasions.
Are you denying the “throwing fits” part or the “objecting to people basing opinions on news articles” part?
Because I’m not going to bother if you’re just going to quibble about the definition of “throwing fits” to play your lawyer games. Call it hyperbole, if it makes you happy.
