Bad things happen because shit happens. It ain’t your fault, it’s your turn.
That’s kinda the way I view life and emphsize. “God’s planners” piss me off, “Sunny Suzie is irritating” and “one upmanship tales of woe” brings out the worst in me.

I’m sure I have to put with far more of those people than you do.
So, you have more than one special needs child then?
(If you were joking like I think you were, well played.)
Well of course
And then there’s the motherfuckin’ “When God closes a door, he opens a window” crowd of idiots.
I try to toss those the idiots out of the now open window in those cases. My MIL passed away 2 days before our first son was born. I was seriously on the verge of losing it if one more person tried to comfort us with that stupid expression.
You’re lucky the baby was born first, or you’d have another bunch of idiots claiming the MIL “spirit” somehow migrated to the baby.
I think it is a requirement if you want to be a Doper.
Read the post again and you’ll see I wasn’t that lucky.
When God closes a door, he opens a window…that is 10 stories above a concrete parking lot.
because defenestration is next on his list…
Thank you for getting that song stuck in my head.
But I suppose it could be worse. It could have been the “Every Sperm Is Sacred” song.
Curse you! I just got rid of Bright Side.
Everything does happen for a reason. It just isn’t the reason they want to think it is.
The tire went flat because it picked up a nail. Not because someone was punishing you by making it flat.
You had a heart attack because you weren’t taking care of yourself or your heart was weak, not because God wanted to send you a sign.
So look on the bright side! It isn’t an asshole God out there fucking with you to teach you lessons! It’s just shit happening like it always does.
Marcus Cole from Babylon 5: I used to think it was awful that life was so unfair. Then I thought, ‘wouldn’t it be much worse if life were fair, and all the terrible things that happen to us come because we actually deserve them?’ So now I take great comfort in the general hostility and unfairness of the universe.
Bonus points if you went with the Carter family.
I win the bonus points, as I sit here with “Keep On the Sunny Side” running through my mind!
On a very similar note, I prefer to go way back to Johnny Hamp’s Keep your Sunny Side Up!
*
Keep your sunny side up, keep it up!
Hide the side that gets blue.
If you have nine sons in a row,
Baseball teams make money, you know!*
Had to look that one up, GIG. Not used to that, though I know that song is that old. Extra, extra points.
I just stole that for my Facebook status. Thank you!
