WWII B17 flying over my house yesterday! This B24 Liberator flew over twice. They are part of the Collings Foundation Wings of Freedom Tour, which travel the country offering tours and rides in these vintage aeroplanes. I heard the rumble of the B24’s engine and I knew it had to be one of the bombers which were nearby over the weekend. I rushed outside and waved like a maniac as it sailed over the house at about 1000 feet. What a thrill!
There’s a B17 that does excursions out of Galveston. I’ve been on the beach at the State Park and watched it fly laps just off shore. It’s truly a beautiful thing.
A couple of years ago my brother and I pooled our money and got our mom a flight on the B17. We surprised her telling her only it was just a tour on the ground. The jig was up when the Collings Foundation people asked her to sign a legal waver. She said, “Why am I signing this?” We said, “Because you’re going up!” She was so thrilled. She cried the whole 30 minute flight. When we saw the 909 go over yesterday she cried again. [sub]Me too[/sub]
