Looking for a new PC game

Get the Mass Effect $15 bundle TODAY. ME1 is 75% off ($5) and ME2 is 50% off ($10). Gotta love those Steam sales. But again, it’s only for today.

Both games are easily worth the full $60 a piece. For $15, it’s like you’re going up to Bioware headquarters and robbing them at gun point.

There’s no worthwhile DLC for the first game. The second game does have some DLC you should probably pick up. Ignore the suit and wepaon packs, and instead purchase the story DLC. All of it is good and you get some of it for free for purchasing your copy.

“Bring Down the Sky” is worth getting for ME1. It’s free if you get the game on Steam. ME2 also comes with some free DLC on Steam, though nothing to write home about. For the good stuff, you have to go through the Bioware store and you’ll wind up paying more for the DLC than you will for the game itself.

Dragon Age 1 was basically the fantasy version of Mass Effect (I haven’t played Dragon Age 2 yet but I understand it is different). I mean this in the best way possible. They are both great stories with great characters.

Lots of helpful info here. Thanks alot. I’m going shopping today. Now I’m armed with a plan.

If you do get The Witcher - one of my favourite RPGs - please note that there are two versions.

Basically, the game was originally plagued with some bugs, long loading times and embarassing recorded dialogue in it’s vanilla release. Being, well, not Activision, CD Projekt Red decided to take their time and fix all that and so rereleased The Witcher: Enchanced Edition about six months later. However, if you have or get the vanilla edition, the patch to make it EE is available for free on their website.

The box should state which edition it is. IIRC, the vanilla edition has a red cover while the Enchanced Edition has a a grey/black cover.

It’s a very good game and the Witcher 2 looks very promising.

Just got Witcher Enhanced Edition. Downloading as we speak. I’m very Excited.

I’ve also purchased Mass Effect 2, but I’m waiting untill I can find the first one. I think I’ll download it from Steam. Also I was told 3 was coming soon so I may pre-order that as well.

I’ll check back with my opinions on Witcher soon. Thanks a bunch guys!

I played The Witcher a little ways in, but two things left me so cold that I quit.

First was repetitive gameplay. Character advancement wasn’t giving me enough cookies to make the gameplay feel very different from scene to scene, so I felt like I was just doing the exact same thing over and over for hour after hour. If I ever pick it up again, I’ll take a look at some guidelines for building characters.

Second was the foxy lady trading cards. When you sex up a girl in the game, you get a baseball card with her nekkid picture on it. It’s so offensively corny that I couldn’t get past it. If I ever play it again, I’ll remain a virgin just to avoid this incredibly obnoxious mechanic.

Should I play Witcher 1 before Witcher 2, or can I just jump right in?

You might want to read some spoilers at least before moving to the Witcher 2. Withcer 2 references some of what happened int he Witcher 1, and that might confuse you.

He’s here all week folks!

I think Bioware said “Holiday 2011” which usually means “in time for Christmas gift purchases.” I’d wager November. It’s supposed to be a trilogy and the preview I’ve seen is pretty awesome, so I’m looking forward to it.

I can’t link to it at the moment but ME3 was delayed until first quarter 2012.

I’m sure there’s a joke there, but I’ve totally missed it.

It is just that Duke Nukem has been delayed for more than a decade. Last year it was announced that it would be released - and then it was delayed again. The new company even made fun of themselves a little over it.

Well, good; I don’t want them rushing the game out just to hit the holiday sales season.

I’m looking at you, Dragon Age 2 devs. :stuck_out_tongue: Goddamned cut-n-paste areas…
