Looking for a particular thing

Sorry for the vague title, but I don’t know exactly what to call this.

I’m shopping for, and can’t find for the life of me, (perhaps because it doesn’t exist :frowning: ) a piece of wire mesh.

I need it to be approximately 1 foot square, made of stainless steel, have approximately 1" openings, and be made of a thin yet strong wire.

I intend to use this as a two fold item - one use will be to add rigidity to my camping backpack. I’ll just put it inside the pack along the side that contacts my back.

The other use is that once I get to camp, I’ll be able to put it over my campfire and have a mini-grill. And no, I don’t really want to use some purpose-made camping grill, I really just want the sheet of wire mesh. If it doesn’t work for me, then I’ll look into purpose made camp grills. The small size and particular strength I’m having a hard time finding. It’s gotta be able to not bend under the stress it would see in my backpack, and also with the heat from the fire with a few pounds of cookware on it.

I’ve tried a lot of different websites, but I don’t know exactly what to search under. I always end up with either a window screen type material, or something that is too heavy like is used for pallet shelving in a warehouse.

Hopefully somebody knows what I’m looking for and can point me in the right direction.

Isn’t that what they call hardware cloth? Check this out: http://compare.ebay.com/like/120667765036?var=lv&ltyp=AllFixedPriceItemTypes&var=sbar&_lwgsi=y .

That one seems to have 1/2" openings but surely you can find 1".

Stainless steel mesh worked for me.

Is chicken wire available in stainless?

You say that like you’ve used it for the purpose I described. Is that true? There’s no information on that site about price or availability. Guess they’d say so after I ordered it. But it does seem to have exactly what I’m looking for. Think they’d sell me just a square foot?

Also, I’m curious as to the diameter of the wire…I’d love to have some with me to test. That McNichol’s site shows .25000" and .12000" wire diameter. That’s 1/4" and 1/8" respectively, isn’t it? 1/4" wire seems super beefy, almost too beefy. I don’t want tons of weight, but I don’t really know if the 1/8" wire would be sturdy enough to hold a small camping pot full of water, or maybe it would.

Anyway, thanks for the responses so far.
