looking for a 'quirky' comedy tv show to watch

Daughter and I have taken to binging TV shows and drinking coffee together.
We liked and finished:
Psych
Parks and Recreation
Santa Clarita Diet
Corner Gas

While quirky comedy; We tried but just couldn’t get into:
Arrested Development
Schitt’s Creek

probably because there was too much pathos
We are now looking for something else that fits the first group, but not the second.
We aren’t looking for situation comedies filmed before a live studio audience complete with fake laugh track. If you are familiar with the group we like, you will have an idea of what we are looking for.

any suggestions?

I liked “Don’t Trust The B…In Apartment 23”. Not sure if it’s held up but I binged the whole thing on Netflix a few years ago and found it amusing.

Have you watched Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt yet? That falls solidly into the “quirky” category, and since you said you already watched Santa Clarita Diet I deduced that you must have Netflix.

The Good Place could work.

I’ve seen bits and pieces of “The Goldbergs” occasionally. It looks interesting, quirky, and reminds me of “The Wonder Years.”

I’ve only seen a few minutes at a time, but it looks promising.

Seconding The Good Place, and also adding Pushing Daisies.

Alas, there are only 22 episodes – its first season was cut short by a writers’ strike, and it never regained its audience in its second season, after the strike – but it’s extremely well-written, with very punchy dialogue, and it is defintely quirky. If you try it, make sure to watch the first episode (“Pie-lette”), as it sets up everything that comes after, and provides the background to the show’s weird premise.

Detectorists, maybe?

Bob’s Burgers
Community
BoJack Horseman
30 Rock
Silicon Valley
Brooklyn Nine-Nine

This guy quirks.

That’s really nice.

I’ve been re-watching Taxi-- I’d forgotten how good it was. Good ensemble, that’s what makes these shows.

30 Rock is probably the epitome of quirky. However, I’m going to suggest the often underrated Better Off Ted. It tends to get compared to Arrested Development. I’m sure that’s partially because Portia De Rossi is in it, but it’s also just as ‘clever’. But it is considerably easier to digest. As much as I love AD, I can understand why some people can’t get into it. Better Off Ted is still your basic office based sitcom…just better.

Speaking of shows with “Rock” in the title: “3rd Rock from the Sun”.

Seconding Pushing Daisies and Better Off Ted. Both are excellent shows.

A lot of people who liked Corner Gas also liked Letterkenny.

You might also like My Name Is Earl, Galavant, and Doc Martin.

If you can find some British shows somehow, I recommend The Durrells*, Detectorists, Zapped, and Ghosts.

You might also like Angie Tribeca or Russian Doll.

*I think it has an alternative name of The Durrells In Corfu

Lots of good comedies mentioned above. I’ll add “What We Do In The Shadows”, “Superstore”, “Detroiters” and “Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency”.

Bro

The Durrells in Corfu has been regularly running here on PBS (at least in Chicago, where I live) for some time now.

Here’s another you might like. No Activity.

If you like Detroiters, check out I Think You Should Leave. It’s with Sam Richardson. The style of comedy (and production value, for that matter) is extremely similar to Detroiters, but it’s a sketch show with a lot of (unexpected) guest stars.

And let’s not forget Fawlty Towers.
