Looking for a quote

I am looking for a quotation, and I’m hoping someone here can give me a lead. I saw it on a poster and wasn’t able to write it down, but now I’d like to find it. All I remember is the gist: It had something to do with every person having a unique voice/message/etc., and because each person is unique throughout all of time, if you allow your voice to be stilled then it will be lost forever. It sounded a lot better when they said it.

Does it sound familiar to anyone? I’m looking for the exact quotation and/or the name of the guy who said it. My faulty memory is giving me “David” something-or-other, but that could be wrong. I know it wasn’t anybody famous (or at least not famous enough for me to recognize the name).

Thanks in advance!

Perhaps you remember when & where you saw this poster ?

The gist has the sound of one of those “great quotes”, so with some lateral clues, might be easy to find.

It was in a math class at a high school. Our pipe band was meeting there last night but we got a new place to meet so I won’t be going back (and even if I wanted to, with school security being what it is these days I doubt they’d look kindly at me peering in through the windows of their classrooms with binoculars).
