Looking for a source on the Israel-Hizbollah fight

I recall reading that Hizbollah had a reason for their timing of attacking the Israeli town of Shelomit and snatching the two soldiers, other than supporting Hamas.

I don’t have time to read through all the GD threads on this topic, and really don’t want to debate.

Anyone recall reading that? Remember what that reason/motivation for the timing was?

Thanks.

The UN putting pressure on Iran over its nuclear program.

maybe. However tension has been escalating for some time on that border with rocket and artillery exchanges for a month before. Israel has been preparing a possible response for the last year apparently . Hexbollah itching for a fight too. In another time, the kidnapping would have provoked a token response by israel.

There had been some sporadic exchanges for the previous six months, but no sign of any real escalation. The key event was the Shalit kidnapping two weeks earlier. Iran aside, Hizballah was taking advantage of Israel’s diverted attention to “join the fight” - to take control of the fight, actually.

There’s no way we’ll ever know whether or not they expected a “token” Israeli response.
