Looking for actors/actresses with beautiful speaking voices

Peter Ustinov.

Mary Elizabeth McGlynn.

Paul Frees.

Vincent Price.

Meg Foster.

I don’t know her name but the woman who does the radio and tv ads for Kaiser Permanente health plans has a terrific voice. Kind of low and insinuating and, well, dirty in a nice respectable way.

I thought of two off the top of my head: Claudia Black, although the accent plays a heavy part, and Seth McFarlane, who always sounds like he’s speaking with radio studio EQ. I have a hard time believing his is his real voice.

James Mason
Peter O’Toole

Kathleen Turner, I am a straight woman but her voice is sexy!

Joan Greenwood

Christina Pickles did the ads for a gourmet grocer here in California for years and she sounded great.

I wish to have Alan Rickman telling me bedtime stories, and James Earle Jones revealing the Divine Plan for my life.

I may be a traitor to my gender, but I can’t think of any women’s voices that I like right now.

Alec Baldwin
Andre Braugher

Oh, I hate those commercials. She sounds so much like Mariette Hartley, but turns out it’s Allison Janney.

“We’re Kaiser Permanente, and we stand for puppydogs and quinoa and treehugging and cardiovascular health and salsa dancing and organic olive oil and cute freckled babies and not filling out forms! and we’ll never send you a bill and all our care is free! because it’s all about you! because we want you to thrive!”

I heard a piece for radio done by Jeffrey Tambour a while back. Tambour is so frequently cast on camera as a buffoon that you don’t notice his voice so much, but stripped of the visuals and just telling a story his voice really comes into its own - not just the timbre [pun not intended] but his subtle vocal acting skill. Really amazing.

Wow. That’s a pretty strong reaction…

Clancy Brown

Charles Dance

Francesca Annis

Rachel Weisz

I’ll listen to Hugh Laurie speak in British or American!

Though not quite “beautiful” to my ear, Martin Sheen’s voice is unique, distinctive, and compelling.

Dennis Haysbert - the guy from the Allstate commercials.

Kaiser Permanente has a strong presence here and is flooding the market with those commercials, both radio and TV. The one where she puts the phony little laugh in her voice is the worst.

I recommend:

Teller

The non-speaking half of Penn and Teller. I heard him on a radio interview and he has the most mellifluous voice. It’s ironic that the talking half of the duo has a harsh, raspy voice and the non-talking half has a voice that is wonderful to listen to.

J.

Sam Elliott.

Raul Julia.
