Looking for cheap/free mp3 editor software

I’ve got some large mp3 files that I’d like to break into ~5 minutes segments and I was hoping to find some software that would do that for me. Ideally, it would auto-number the segments and not insert spaces or dead air in between the tracks.

Does anyone know of anything that would fit the bill?

If you have a Mac, this recent release from Rogue Amoeba, Fission, has an auto-divide setting and is a nice utility. It’s $32 and works beautifully. It’s a cool company, too, with other products, and nope, I have no financial connection with them other than as a satisfied customer.

Try MP3Splt or MP3Split.

I use the command line version of MP3Splt on linux to trim downloads from the BBC.

Thanks, guys! I’m on my way to check these out and see what looks best!
