Looking for recommendations/advice re:Hotels in London

Two friends and I are heading to London England on May 14, landing on May 15th. We’ve got a lot figured out, with the major exception of accommodation (minor problem, you know J )

I’ve been checking out places on the ‘net, but I’d like to get some recommendations from others, either natives or people who have been there before. We’re looking for something in the 50-75 pound/night range, in London proper. We’re not looking for anything fancy, but we don’t want to get stuck in a bad neighbourhod either.

We don’t know exactly how long we’re staying, but it will be at least 4 nights. There’ll be me (a guy) and two girls, and we don’t mind sharing a bed. And yes, I mean “we” :stuck_out_tongue:

So any recommendations on hotels (links would be good if possible) and is our price range reasonable or are we being too cheap? My cousin (who lives in Paris) says that 50—60 EUR a night will get a 2 or 3 star hotel, which she’ll book for me. Is 50-75pounds enough for a decent hotel in London?

Well, using Travelocity, I found several perfectly adequate hotels in Kensington for under 100 dollars a night. The rooms were tiny, of course, but comfortable and clean.

So, you should be able to find something decent and affordable.

Are you looking to spend 50-60 Euros a night or 50-75 pounds a night? They’re not the same thing (1 pound = 1.43 Euro at the moment).

I don’t know what the rates are, but my husband and I stayed at the Cherry Court Hotel (near Victoria Station) when we were students (read: not rich). I have some friends who have stayed there recently, and we all liked it. It was clean and comfortable and in a decent neighborhood. It’s definitely worth looking into – here’s their website.

Have fun in London!

hello,

Yes, we’re looking at spending 50-75 POUNDS a night all togdther. We’re also going to Paris, that is why i mentioned my cousin.

Stargazer=thanks for the link! i’ve already sent it to my friends to see what they think.

Oh, and the thing about the net is, I’ve heard stories of people booking hotels over the net, and being disappointed b/c the hotel was not as described, or the hotel was in a shady/bad part of town. I’d rather get recommendations from people who have been there before, rather than going in blindly.

Just called the Cherry Court Hotel, they don’t have anything available :frowning:

You can also look for London B&Bs on the Internet. I’ve not used any of them (as I live here), but they look a lot nicer and can be cheaper than hotels.

Okay, well, if you’re leery of Internet descriptions, I can’t blame you… but the place I stayed at was the Country Inn Suites in Kensington.

A 4-star hotel? Far from it. The room was tiny, but it was clean, modern and comfortable, and it cost around 80 dollars (right now, that’s… what, 55 pounds?). It’s in your price range, and you’ll get breakfast as well. And there are a lot of comparable places at comparable prices within a few blocks of it.

£55 for a hotel in Kensington? In the words of the bronzed (well, oranged, really) David Dickinson, that’s cheap as chips…
