In particular, I am looking for software that supports the following:[ul][li]Screenshots of regions or windows[*]Ability to add text, circles, and arrows[/ul]Doesn’t have to be free, though I’m not buying a $500 tool for this.[/li]
I have been using a tool called Gadwin Printscreen for years, but that one (and the other free ones I can find) only do basic screenshots and don’t do markup.
I am now using a demo version of Captus, and I like it; however, I would like to try others if there are better ones out there.
Assuming you are using a Windows O/S, you can do the screen/Window capturing for free using the key combinations of <CTRL>-PrtSc and <ALT>-PrtSc along with GIMP freeware.
I have been doing the workflow you describe for many years and I’m a little tired of having to switch between apps for this. I have Photoshop installed on my machine. I also have freeware screenshot software that does a better and easier job than using PrtSc.
I would like a polished software product that allows me to quickly create screenshots, annotate them, and save them without needing to switch between products.
It’s fine if you are creating one or two, but imagine writing a software manual where you might need dozens or hundreds of screenshots. Or imagine putting together screenshots for submitting bug reports, where you might want to add annotations quickly without having to launch other tools.
I work at a major aerospace manufacturer and we use HyperSnap. It does all you are asking for and even captures editable text from a region. You can even add color highlighting to your capture.
I use PrintKey 2000 (gotta look for the free version) on Windows, just because I’m not willing to look for anything else. It does what I need it to, though.
