I am looking for summer camps in biology for a rising 11th grade student. Budget is about $3000 and I would prefer something on the East coast.

In the North Carolina mountains. One of the people on another board I frequent went to the anatomy camp but it looks like they offer a biology camp too.
Biology camp or " getting to know insects, plants or birds by name" camps?
I spent most of my vacations as a teen in such camps, by the Dutch Nature Study association. (NJN, here are some picture galleries of recent camps) It was for and by teens of 14 to 25 years old, and we pretty much ruled and catered to ourselves. All kids were fanatical about nature study and they taught each other. I have fond memories, learned a lot, and the cost per camp was usually less then 50 bucks a week.
Is there a US similar organisation?
If Pennylsvania is “East Coast” enough, there’s Camp Watonka, near Hawley, PA. Don’t know what it costs, though. It has a variety of scientific activities.

Moved to IMHO.

looking for camps that are more academic than fun oriented.
I would recommend NOLS as a top notch educational experience. It is geared toward outdoors education and really learning alpine adventure, but they do a lot of conservation and biology education during their programs. That being said, it is in WY and $4000+ but is 30 days and worth every penny.
Otherwise most state universities have a science camp in the summer that one can look up on a state by state basis.
