Looking for TBS Suggestion

Hi Everyone

I hove been looking for a new game, and I thought that the collective wisdom here might have some suggestions.

I am a huge fan of the turn-based military games. I really do not like the real-time games. Don’t know why, they just don’t do it for me. Unfortunately, the golden age of TBS seems to have passed. However, I figure that there must still be some folks making decent ones, and so I am looking for suggestions.

Just to provide a little context, my two favorites of all time are Panzer and People’s General. I still play them from time to time, but at this point they are pretty used up. I do like Civ (IV was great, I am not that impressed by V) but it is a war game second.

Also, I think I like a “medium complexity” game- some games just go a lttle too deep into the administrative activities, and for me, if that is what I wanted I would get a job. That’s why I think I like the General series. It is not over simplified (like the original Empire), but not a slog like Supreme Ruler 2010 (great concept, just too much work). As an aside, I was disappointed that they advertised that somewhere as TBS, but in fact it was RTS- their rationale was that you could set it to pause at the end of each turn. BS, I say, since I sitll had to manage the moment by moment actions of my units.

Anyway, any thoughts?

THanks

You may want to look around for the Close Combat series. There are several games using the same engine, using scenarios derived from D-Day, Battle of the Bulge, the Russian Front, Operation Market Garden. The Russian game is very tank-centric. These are older games, and I dunno if they’ve been updated for modern systems.
