Just bought a ADVC300 Canopus Firewire capture box. I want to transfer some personal family video from VHS to DVD. This capture box comes with no software. Plug it in to firewire and Windows should recognize.
What are people using these days to capture from camera and other firewire devices? Something free would be nice.
I’m finally giving up my old Matrox capture card. It was a daughter board with my graphics card. Had to use Win 98 on an old dedicated computer that was only used for video.
I liked the capture software that came with Microsoft VFW (Video for Windows). It’s a no frills, zero resource little program. It does one thing and thats accept frames from the capture card. It came out in 96? or 97?
I also have Adobe Premiere 1.5. I’ve transferred video from my video camera (firewire) with it. I don’t think it works beyond Win XP. I’m not blowing that kind of money again for Win 7. Also, its so complicated and easily broken. One corrupt driver and you’re screwed.
This Microsoft VFW package shows a 2011 build date. Maybe it works with Win 7?
