Looking to make Vinarterta for the first time in 20 years

I’ve been on a bit of a nostalgic binge lately, and wanted to relive a dessert my Icelandic great-grandmother would make.

Unfortunately my great-grandmother and grandmother are no longer here to talk me through it.

My main question is on the 7 layers of “cookie sheets” the recipe i have doesn’t really say how to cook them, or how long anyway.

I know the dessert has to set in a refrigerator overnight, and seem to recall the “cookies” being really white yet, but crunchy.

Do i cook them all the way before stacking? Or do they harden in the fridge?

Having never heard of it, I had look online and this Martha Stewart recipe is the first thing I found. The layers are baked and left to cool. Looks like you could make it with figs, too.
