[out of game] I mentioned up-thread that I just finished my BFA in digital cinema arts, and now I’m getting my masters. A band here in Saint Louis was looking for a music video, and they picked a friend of mine to direct it. He called me up and asked me to be his DP for the shoot.
It was a really awesome shoot. We were working entirely on a RED ONE (near-IMAX quality) camera on a steadicam, sometimes with a fisheye lens, so lighting was a challenge. But I love this stuff, and we all had a great time. [/out of game]
It was already mentioned way back when Plankton claimed that he’d probably just report that he was blocked, regardless of whether he was telling the truth or not. And if Natlaw is lying scum, then he’s had all Night to brainstorm with his colleagues about this. This isn’t some revolutionary idea.
What I’m really more interested in hearing from him is his role name and mechanics, and possibly what his other investigation was.
I still don’t think revealing my full results are useful at this point. That I didn’t get killed last Night adds to my reasons - I think the scum are looking for something precious. I wasn’t blocked last Night either as I investigated Nanook succesfully. Night two I investigated Guiri and I will reveal neither result now as I think it’s better not revealed.
Night One I investigated Astral and since he has now claimed vanilla (but without name) and wasn’t killed last Night: I investigated him as a hobbit named Peregrin Took.
As for my role PM I’ll post the power section.
The reason (‘no comment’ from Mahaloth) a Godfather wouldn’t be able to hide is more that if there is a Godfather it would be almost certainly Sauron and I would be better hiding.
Similarly I think Gollum would be able to hide as he doesn’t look like a hobbit.
Deaths: Suburban Plankston – Denethor (Servant of Darkness – No special power) Telcontar – Legolas (Alliance of Light – Protector)
Chipacabra – Treebeard (Alliance of Light – No special power)
Gadarene – Aragorn (Alliance of Light – Special Objects)
Specialed – Faramir (Alliance of Light – No special powers)
Pleonast – Galadriel (Alliance of Light – Role-blocker)
Wow. I am indeed Peregrin Took. And yet, that might just be the scummiest post I’ve seen in a while.
You don’t want to give out your full results. You weren’t roleblocked or killed last night, which means either the scum don’t have a roleblocker or you’re scum yourself. You can apparently only detect hobbits, elves, dwarves and men. What if you investigate a maiar like Gandalf or Sauron? No result? Your PM, much like SP’s fake, sounds unlike something Mahaloth would write. This line sounds particularly suspect:
Players should be pluralized. Hide or notice sounds poorly worded. ‘Then’ instead of 'them." “Be careful” should be preceded by a semi-colon, not a comma. I suppose it’s not completely impossible you’re legit, but I’d say this is as conclusive as it gets.
Here’s what I think. You’re a scum investigator who investigated me and found out who I am. I was about to swing, so you posted a late-day claim revealing that you know who I am. I get lynched, and you buy yourself a ton of town cred for “trying” to save me. Only you posted it a little too early, and people switched to Ed instead. I’m willing to bet you don’t actually know what Guiri or Nanook are, either. What were the results of their investigation?
You investigated me? Well, then I think it’s definately time to claim. I can’t imagine you guys not killing me Tonight.
I am Gandalf. I’m a detective.
Night 1 I investigated Meeko, Night 2 Natlaw, and last Night Guiri. Meeko and Guiri came back with Town results, though I make no promises about the existance or not of a Godfather. Natlaw came back with a scum result. Based on that and his claims, I’m guessing he’s a scum investigator(which is why I’m claiming now rather than waiting. There’s no way the scum would pass on killing Gandalf.)
Add to that, there’s no other good-aligned player who would have a palantir. And an outed investigator should pretty much always tell all their results. And an outed power role of any sort should at least reveal their name.
I suppose a maia might be argued to look like a human or elf (despite being fundamentally completely different), but we also had an ent in this game, and there’s no conceivable way anyone would ever mistake an ent for any kind of humanoid. What would have happened if he’d investigated Chipacabra?
There’s too many inconsistencies here. So I, too, will Vote Natlaw
OK, Nanook snuck in just before me, there. Nanook, if Natlaw came back Scum on Night 2, why didn’t you claim then? Or at least, try to quietly build a case against him? And can you post your PM? Do you just get alignment, or name, and if name, what name did you get for Natlaw and for Guiri?
@Nanook: There’s an outside shot you might just survive tonight after all. I think Natlaw has inadvertently slipped some key information:
Looking for something precious. Something more important than killing a detective. Now, of course there’s a strong possibility that Natlaw just totally made that up (in which case you’re a goner, but trading for scum is a good trade). But it’s still something to keep in mind.
If it’s true and you get at least one more investigation, we as a town should pick a good target for you to investigate.
@One and Only: That’s a reasonable suggestion. Nat also attempted to tie things up between me and Special Ed, which would help your case. I know I’m town, however; can I suggest that Nanook use his investigation on me if we can’t think of a better target?
I didn’t claim Day 2 because the Doctor was dead. If I claimed then, it would be a straight one for one trade, which while nice enough, I didn’t think I would be NK’d so I choose to go for another investigation. When Natlaw made his last minute claim, I resolved to claim Today no matter. I only waited as long as I did because I wanted to see what Natlaw would say, maybe get something useful out of him. I even briefly toyed with not claiming at all Today, depening on what he said. But once he said he investigated me last Night, that went out the window due to the very real possibilty he’s a scum investigator, which would mean I’d be dead Tonight with my results gone forever.
It occurs to me that a godfather would say that, too. If you think I’m Sauron, not even an investigation would change your mind. If Natlaw turns up scum (and let’s be honest, I’m just about sure he will), I can’t begrudge you for voting for me in turn.
Just a note, by the way, on reasoning: Even if Natlaw is lying, that’s not evidence that he’s a Scum investigator, just evidence that the Scum have an investigator (who might be someone else), given that they can easily share their information.
OK, I’m not sure that’s what I would have done, but I can see the reasoning. For the record, though, it would have been a little better than a straight one-for-one claim, since you’d also have cleared a Townie.
If Natlaw comes up Scum, then what he said about you is null. He could have been trying to save a Scum-buddy, or he could have been trying to build up cred by correctly identifying a Townie.
On the other hand, the possibility of a godfather (or, possibly, miller) is a good argument for not making public in advance who the Detective is going to investigate. If the Scum know that the detective is about to make an incorrect investigation, they can choose to let him live to make sure the misinformation gets out there. And even if the chosen target isn’t the Godfather, they might also let an investigation of a townie go through, in hopes that we’ll suspect the detective and/or person investigated and do their work for them.
