Lost Mafia/Werewolf/Psychopath

Mod Note: Mahaloth sought and got approval for this game and it’s OOC/misc secondary threads. - Gukumatz.

Welcome to “Lost” Mafia, a mafia/werewolf/psychopath game based on the TV Show Lost. It’s OK if you have never seen the show or even if you dislike the show. Previous knowledge or appreciation of the show is not required to understand or succeed in the game. It’s just a structure to frame our little story in. If you are a huge Lost fan, don’t expect the game to conform strictly to the canon of the show. It’s just a game.

**This game is friendly for both newcomers and veterans. If you are interested, jump on in!
**
Anyway, here we go.

:enter cool storytelling mode:

Not that long ago, Oceanic Flight 815 was on its way from Sydney, Australia to Los Angeles, California. Unfortunately, it split apart and crashed on an island(don’t you hate it when that happens?). Rather unusually, a pretty good amount of people actually survived the crash. Not only that, they were barely injured and only lost consciousness for a brief time.

After living together on a beach for awhile, the survivors began to suspect that the island was unusual. Not only did odd things happen, but the survivors also began to suspect that not all of them were working toward the same goal of survival and rescue. In fact, it began to appear as if some of the people may not have even been on the plane in the first place. As time went on, some people left the island and some people came to the island, but there was still an uneasy feeling amongst many of the people surviving on the Island. Some people just seemed……odd.

**Unfortunately, the Survivors on the island had no idea who was a genuine island Survivor and who was an … “Other” person for lack of a better term.

Fear of the Others has been increasing recently and, as you may have expected, the Survivors on this mysterious island recently decided to find out who the Others are, and eliminate them from their presence.

This has not made the Others very happy. No, they are definitely not happy at all.

As you can imagine, this is going to get interesting.**

More specific “Mafia” game information:

This is actually a pretty straight forward Mafia game. New players should feel pretty comfortable, as long as you understand the basic idea of Mafia. The Town(Survivors) wants to kill the Scum(Others) and the Scum(Others) want to kill the Town(Survivors).

**
This game has two factions:

  1. One faction is called “Survivors” and is comprised of more or less good people who live on the island. Survivors are Lost Mafia’s version of Town.

  2. The other faction is called “Others” and is comprised of villainous people who are trying to pick off Survivors. Others are Lost Mafia’s version of Scum.**

Each Day, the players in the game will vote to lynch/kill one person. Whomever receives the most votes dies and is out of the game. If it is a tie……you’ll see.

I will say only this about power roles. They may or may not exist, but if they do, they are not crazy powerful and do not weight the game too heavily to either side.

Lost Mafia rules

Other rules to keep the game organized:

Votes are in bold and blue, like so:
Vote Mahaloth

Unvotes are in bold and red:
Unvote Mahaloth

Mod questions are in bold and green:
What happens if the lynch vote is a tie?

If I do not respond to your question, I either missed it(ask again), or I am ignoring it. If I choose to do so, I will tell you that I am not answering it, but I don’t “have to”, so to speak.

Do NOT PM each other about the game.

Nights are 2 days long, Days are 5 days long. They may get shorter as the player list shrinks. I’ll announce when Night Zero(an intro Night with no kills or power usage) begins after the signups are complete and we’ll go from there.
If you think a player has quit without telling us, please post in purple and I will either replace them or kill them.

Replace Mahaloth with Johnny Appleseed

All players may strategize at all times in-thread. Editing of posts is allowed.** After I PM you your role, please confirm with me that you received it and are ready to go.**

I hope you guys enjoy the game. It’s my first time moderating a Mafia game, so I’m pretty excited to see how things turn out.

Good luck to everyone and have fun!

Cool! Let’s hope it goes well!

Gaaa…I want to get back in a game so badly…really, I do. However, 1) I know nothing about Lost (and yeah, I know, knowledge of a theme isn’t a requirement…still, I much prefer it if I have even a little knowledge), and 2) I’ll be on vacation for two weeks in July (which pretty much kills the idea of any Mafia until I get back).

Ah well…next time.

Well, seeing as how I am from Sydney, Australia, the game colour simply demands that I participate.

Damn you colour! Why wont you leave me be?

clears throat

I don’t think RL will interfere too badly with my internet time, especially since this looks like a straight forward game, so, yeah…

Sign me up, please!

I went to plug the game for ya and you had already done it yourself. :stuck_out_tongue:

/IN BTW… Interested in seeing what you did with the setup and characters. Hopefully it will be vastly different than the direction I took in my setup.

Well, I’ve lurked a couple of these games, so I might as well dive in. I’m going to have to be at a week-long conference in mid-July for work, but should be able to get online from the hotel. So sign me up!

On the one hand, I’d probably sink more time into this than I ought if I play. On the other hand, though, even if I don’t play, I’ll probably still sink more time into it than I ought, backseat driving in the forbidden thread. If I’m going to waste time anyway, I may as well have fun doing so.

I’m in.

There should be a hard-and-fast rule on whether this leads to modkill or replacement, else you will end up having to make decisions that influence the outcome of the game.

I’ve only played this once before, so I don’t have a lot of experience. If you don’t mind a bit of n00bishness, I’ll give it a go.

Deep Exhale.

I’m In.**

Oh, but passively tracking someone, and sinfecting someone else at RANDOM made perfect sense to me.

You mean, we won’t have that here?

Hooray!

Mahaloth, I have been meaning to get around to start watching LOST. How much of the Canon will you spoil in this game?

Seconded.

You are in, AllWalker.

You are in, Tom.

You are in, Chronos.

I will try to find a sub through Days One-Three, at least. Past that, I will most likely kill. I would have killed paul and possibly peeker in the Crimsom Glyph game, though peeker only really dropped the last Day(if it had continued one more Day, he would have died most likely).

N00bishness is fine. You are in, Imaginary.

OK, Meeko, but please don’t over analyze this one. If anything, it is LESS complex than Crimson Glyph, OK?

You are in, Meeko. I will spoil practically no canon, but maybe a bit from season one. I would not worry about it.

The trouble with hard-and-fast rules is that they can be manipulated. I think it was Simpletown where the Town guaranteed themselves a win because a Townie intentionally got himself modkilled.

Edit: Also, I am going to be busy getting the Malazan game finalized, so I’m out. Have fun, everyone.

I’m in.

How did that work? some sort of role confirmation?

Alright…I think I have enough time now, now that exams are over, transitions are over and I’m working out a deal with my Mom.

IIRC, there were three confirmed townies, one unconfirmed townie and 2 scum, so Town would lose if they lynched the unconfirmed townie. By getting himself modkilled, the unconfirmed townie left the town where there was three confirmed townies and two unknowns(the unknowns being scum). That meant that the Town could just lynch the two unknowns and guarantee themselves the win.
