yeah, probably not going to happen. I spent too much energy telling Astral Penetration why he was wrong. And tomorrow is the first day with students in the building.
I notice that Chronos had his win condition come after. Has Mahaloth been around? I sent him a PM, but I want to give him a little bit of time before I act.
his pm seems really off like others have noted. plus on reread i can’t hardly tell whether ed was just being ed as scum or something less sinister.
additionally, based on canon, denethor would be a good scum role. i mean he was supposed to be aligned with the good guys but ended up being a jerk. and i don’t play a whole lot of faith in canon or color but this seems consistent with our mods.
At present, things are tied between Special Ed and Suburban Plankton.
From [post=12786973]post 2[/post], the tiebreak is whichever reached the top vote first dies. I’m assuming that is SP, since he peaked at 8 votes.
Mahaloth, can you confirm this interpretation of the current situation is correct?
I would, as things currently stand, be OK with a lynch of either. Normally I would prefer to let the claimed investigator live, giving him rope to hang himself with. The textual criticism of his claimed PM did make me uneasy, particularly as the line “You have seen Sauron’s burning eye through your Palantir and know all of Middle-earth will be destroyed.” might equally appear in Saruman’s PM (after all, he was in possession of the Palantir of Orthanc until his army was wiped out at Helm’s Deep.)
I’d expect anyone with that sort of line in their PM to be one of Sauron’s minions. It rings all sorts of alarm bells with me.
Would you care to comment on Plankton’s claim, or are you just going to sit in the corner and pout?
Anyway, you raise some very good points Gadarene. And I’ll throw in that the compulsive part of the role sounds a bit off to me. (Though, to be fair, I’ve seen much weirder roles.)
I mean, why would a detective not investigate anyway? It’s not like a vig where use of power can actually hurt town. Even if losing power upon discovering scum forces you to claim, there’s no reason why you wouldn’t investigate. Even knowing that scum have watchers and trackers is no reason why you wouldn’t investigate. In fact, I can’t think of any reason why a detective would not investigate except if they had a vigging power (or something otherwise very detrimental) to go with it (yes, we’ve had dick/vigs and block/vigs in games in the past, both had a percent chance of vigging their target).
But if he’s telling the truth, scum have some wacky mechanic that would call for compelling a detective to investigate. And on top of that, town would have to have some ability to discover why a detective would not want to investigate, otherwise the compulsion is pointless. There has to be some negative equal to or greater than the investigation itself, and I can’t think of any offhand.
So yeah, the claim is strange. Very much so. But I’m still inclined to believe that we should look elsewhere for our lynch today.
ed this irks me. i understand your frustration. but shit if you are cashing it in i’ll move my vote back in a sam hill minute. you pulled a boner. you got called on it and generated some votes. and to be totally frank i still am a little confused if you get the scum mvp as a town or scum.
Yes, this is true. However: -[ol][li]Denethor is one of those roles which does not require much of a stretch to flip from canon alignment.[/li][li]In the books, Tolkien is clear that Denethor’s suicide and attempt to take his son with him was an evil act, and by that act evil sapped Gondor’s ability to resist the assault.[/li][*]I’m considering the possibility that SP is actually Saruman false-claiming Denethor - that is, Denethor is SP’s cover role.[/ol]For those reasons, I’m seriously considering switching votes.
But for the most part, I’m playing this game assuming that there isn’t any anyway, because without an open recruiting mechanic, it’s gastard to drastically change how an uniformed town can strategize. We don’t know how recruitment works. And right now, we don’t even know if we have a way to find it out. Town wins through information acquisition. Recruitment that screws with that is a huge negative to town.
Of course, the fact that our mod refuses to comment one way or the other is annoying. Typically games with recrutiment will at least say it’s out there. There was nothing in the setup as described to indicate there was. So if there is, I’m going to be a bit put out by that fact.
