OK, but I do find it interesting that 8 out of the top 10 players were receiving votes. and only 1 out of the bottom 15 were.

Why do you find that so interesting? Other than peeker’s “lynch the lurkers” initiative, all of the voting has been done based on what people have posted. So the people who have posted the most have the most content to be examined and found suspect. Thus, they received the most votes. Squeaky wheels and all that…

Exactly my point. We have a habit of lynching the loud. Someone who posts a lot probably says things that may be somewhat suspicious and it’s easy to vote that way.

I suppose it’s almost inevitable on Day 1, but I think we need to be more careful

ok, let’s make this easy for you and everyone else. when i get focused on someone that person typically is all i am looking at. weakness, i know.

i was really looking at ed and was focused on him. his play was anti town. it was, in my opinion, short sighted from a town stand point.

and this is total meta game. but when chronos started to semi agree with me that made me nervous as heck. i don’t get along well with chronos in these games either (although he seems like a nice enough folk and someone i would like to talk physics about over a diet coke). and then chippy chimes in with his/her (?) comment. that just didn’t ring true.

i think pleo’s soft claim was shit but not enough to warrant a vote, yet. i think that chronos doing his half ass mason claim is shit. i think that others doing the same thing is a bunch of non town oriented crap. i think that folks posting portiions of their pms is very anti town and only helps scum. the problem is that i can’t vote for eight or ten folks so i am going to go for the one on the top of my list. although i may yte very well just move it to a lurker as a policy vote before the Day ends.

My thinking was if Ed is scum, he’s seen a VT role example and quite likely a cover story. So he knows a name that isn’t being used by the townies. So he slips it into the list of names, adding in a connection to the palantir to provide Plankton with a plausible cover. Basically, Ed being scum introduces the possibilty of him trying to rescue Plankton.

This isn’t a guaranteed scenario, just a plausible one, hence it’s not enough to nail in Plankton’s coffin, so I only said ‘good chance’.

Not to mention that scum no doubt got to talk night 0, so they probably started out crafting cover ideas, 'cause that’s what scum do on Night 0 when they can’t talk during the Day. However, I’ve seen scum blow cover roles before, particularly newbie/newish players. I forget the game, but it was here and Rysto helped craft the cover role and a newbie scum used it, but didn’t quite get it right and so no one bought the claim. Because scum couldn’t talk during the day, there was nothing to do to tweak the claim that wasn’t quite ready yet.

So I don’t buy the “Ed was helping Suburban” angle for a minute.

i don’t think it works ed. you and i and several others play this game the same way. we chat and see what comes up. nook and his ilk don’t say a whole bunch but also don’t give people grief about the way they play (although i will say this coca coloa gave me first mafia vote years back for being too chatty). discussion is the weapon of mass destruction for town. i don’t give a rat’s rear what we talk about. fuck if you are a yankees fan then you are most likely scum kind of attitude.

chipa has said through the last page or so that she finds burb most likely scummy no matter what you are, even if you are town. but she/he is going to vote you regardless. that seems incongruent. i call bullshit.

Not buying the roleclaim, for the many reasons already stated. Am still suspicious of Diver, and while I see quite a few people defending ed, his behavior in the couple of pages (yeesh) has been bizarre, to say the least. I am not understanding the whole role-name obfuscation in the least. I see no pro-Town motivation for it–it just seems like a big distraction. If SP comes up Scum, I think it looks like ed was protecting him.

Not much time to post more, but I wanted to get the vote in before it was too late. I’ll try to digest the last 100 or so posts overnight and see if I can come up with something a little more coherent. I got about 4 hours of sleep last night and desperately need to go to bed before I try to think more.

Yikes, more than 200 posts to read through in a day! These are some thoughts on posts I’d marked while reading through:

On a completely separate subject, a thought just occurred to me: A Scum might try to exploit Mahaloth’s strict enforcement of the vote formatting rules. For instance, suppose at the end of the Day that there’s a close race between Scum A and a townie. Scum B might vote for Scum A, but “accidentally” make a formatting error, and not notice it until after the deadline. In this way, B would get Town cred for having (tried to) vote for the Scum, but would also not put his teammate in any greater danger of a lynch. It’s a no-drawback bus vote. I think we need to keep an eye out for this, and be extra-vigilant with our own posts near the end of the Day to make sure we don’t make any genuine mistakes like this.

Most votes not ending up in the final vote count will be ignored, last minute switching not withstanding. So I don’t seem much danger in this kind of tactic. Especially not now that you’ve brought it to light.

I agree with you here and with other’s who have commented on the incongruous language in regards to ‘knowing Middle-earth is doomed’. However I am also loathe to lynch a claimed investigative role on Day 1. I still feel that Astral’s vote and unvote of me are the most scummy individual action of the Day. I’m happy with my vote where it is for now. I will be at work tomorrow at Dusk and probably unavailable for any last minute posting or voting. I may be able to check in tonight before going to bed and tomorrow before going to work.
