BTW you find a document that says, though it is a bit censored, that
Lorelei is suffering from “total visual impairment” and aphasia, which are believed to be early symptoms of ("terminal "!?) Alzheimer’s disease. So it’s possible that her memories are not 100%. Not that I am suggesting this has anything to do with the kitchen, specifically. Presumably, the hotel just had a normal kitchen…
It does make me wonder about the fate of Renzo. I think the balance of evidence is that Renzo did in fact go nuts, cut out his eyes, and force Lorelei to kill him (in self defense).
But… that’s kinda insane, even for someone like Renzo. Is anyone capable of cutting out their eyes, no matter how crazy? And at the end, we see Renzo sitting beside her bed with the dog.
So maybe that is the real truth. The police investigation was a memory fabricated from The Third Eye; a work of fiction as applied to the real events of Lorelei’s life. Renzo was a little crazy but not that crazy, and did care for her (though not romantically: it seems that he was gay and she was asexual). They grew apart but she got Alzheimers and Renzo visited to see her one last time.
As I noted above, whatever was the real truth, we are told almost nothing about Lorelei’s life (50+ years of it) after 1963. She resurfaces maybe once or twice, acting intense and/or weird, but not even her former friends/colleagues have the faintest idea what she was up to.
I am tangentially reminded of Marcel Duchamp, whom people knew was still alive but everybody thought had given up art. After he died, it turned out he had been working on Étant donnés in secret for over 20 years.
(BTW, one of the memories in the game is an article dated 2022(!!!) concerning an anonymous Internet poster nicknamed “Putih” (= white = “Weiss”) discovering the remains of the OCU-3 with all kinds of stuff on it. Then again, if Lorelei had continued working on electronic stuff, like she always meant to, she would have used normal/modern computers and electronics. But then we are back to her mixed-up memories.)
Just one nitpick: why do you think Lorelei was “asexual”? If you click on the sofa in her apartment, she mentions having had “a lot of good times” on that sofa. Having a lot of sex does not mean she was ever close to anyone, of course.
Interesting comments. There must be many artists that fell off the map at some point. They have their moment in the sun, but the world moves on.
The description of the Ace of Spades card makes reference to asexuality, and I’d connected that to Lorelei. I’d forgotten about the couch comment, though. That does hint that she may have been more aromantic than asexual. Or perhaps it was meant innocuously–maybe she just read a lot of books or watched a lot of TV there?
It’s supposed to spell 1847. The small circle is a pivot, and the curved line shows how the bottom part moves (which is always 90 degrees counterclockwise). After it moves, the digits appear as they would on a 7-segment display. But for the last digit, the pivot is in the wrong place. It should be half a unit to the right. The curved line is in the right place, though.
I finished a while back. I was just looking through some photos and remembered that I took a screenshot, so I figured I’d post it. Yeah, maybe I’ll write the devs.
I tried playing SPL-T a bit to get the achievement, but it’s not easy. It’s an interesting little game, though. It’s 100% deterministic but unless you write down your moves, you’ll get a different game each time… and they’ll be very different games.
According to my latest save file, I am 50% through the game. Yesterday I gained entry to the Magic Show in the caravan and got some but not all of the “suit keys.” I also finally collected the last wooden block, which got me the last coin from the chapel, allowing me to open the courtyard orangerie. Not gonna lie - waiting all this time through a multi-layered series of puzzles all to get a key to an unknown place was a bit of a letdown.
I found the LASR-I gaming system and bopped around in the game forest for a while. I can see that the bug report relates to the game, but I’m still uncertain what to do there - I need to go back and play around more. And there’s a second bug report, I know, but I don’t have it yet.
I’m still completely stymied by the astrological clock. And I haven’t figure out how to get into the cafe yet, either. And there’s a statue on the second floor that needs something inserted and I haven’t been able to figure that out yet, either. Opening that would open the biggest unexplored section of the hotel left.
So, plenty more left to do, but I am making good progress. I’ve recovered 4/9 script pages.
Oh, and I found the supercomputer. I understand how to get through the first level of security, but not the others yet.
Aaaaand I still haven’t got a clue about any of the puzzle boxes. So many mysteries to solve!
I think I solved the astrological clock quite late game. Do you mean the bust that has a slot to put something in? You will definitely know when you have the right object for that.
And yes, I think that really did open up a huge area of the hotel.
Yep, you will know what to do when you find the right stuff.
My guess is that the symbols are the runes on the ripped up posters, which translate to the letters ORIEL. I believe I need to use the runes to spell “Lorelei,” i.e. my Username.
I got a little time in over the weekend, which was mostly spent in a Quiz Maze that I didn’t love - too repetitive and just a bunch of looking stuff up from my photographic memory. Even more annoying is that I got all the way to the end, but I definitely don’t have the answer to the final question yet. So all of that aaaaaaand nothing as a result. Womp womp.
I thought I had a solution to some of the puzzle boxes at last! Some of the patterns on some doors (like the 1973 door and the 1953 door) match the patterns on the boxes, which all take 4 inputs. So I thought: perfect, just enter the year from the door and voila! Nope I tried several different ways for each (since the boxes don’t actually have numbers on them, it’s not clear where exactly to start) but no joy. I’m convinced I’m onto something there, but haven’t quite been able to bring it home.
According to the game, I am about 60% done, but will have to leave it there as I am off on a vacation soon and won’t be able to play for a while.
I disliked the maze of questions as well. At least when you have the required information for the end, the guys won’t be blocking your way to the center.
Yep, they do connect to the rooms in some way. Won’t say how, but they do connect.
I snuck in an hour last night and finally made some progress on the puzzle boxes. I went back to the original maze (which I had largely ignored) and picked up all the tiles, which broke the windows and got me a bunch of keys from back in the Quiz Maze. Using the 1973 key, I finally got in there and figured out that (easy) puzzle to open the 1973 puzzle box, netting me…a page from a book (presumably about me). I am very happy to have solved at least that, even if the reward was somewhat underwhelming. I also went into the 1932 (I think?) room, but ran out of time before I was able to solve that one.
I got all 9 maze tiles, but was not able to find my way into the center of the maze due to all the crazy perspective shifting. I’ll have to go back and try to work my way there. I’ll take a close look at the map of the maze this time before going in.
Read the paper you got again. Think about how what you read there might be useful in the game. It’s not just background information or lore. Look at it again.
I hate mazes in general and even more with the perspective shifts. I ended up putting a picture of the maze(I found an in-game map of the maze, did you?) on my laptop in front of me while I walked through the maze in-game.
I’m back from vacation and got a couple hours of play in over the weekend. I submitted the last script page, which opened up that room at last, got the Left Eye (WTF?) and access to the rest of the Loft level. I’ve got more rooms to explore than I know what to do with right now.
I solved another puzzle box and got another bit of my “past.” There are a couple of other puzzle box rooms I continue to struggle with, so I just leave them for a while and hopefully something will spark while I am away.
I’m also working my way through the Laser-I games. I’ve done 2/3 and have the error reports from each of those two. Each error report has a specific 3-letter code on it, which I assume will be useful once I have all 9 of them. Not sure where yet.
There is also a stupid 3 letter/symbol lock - with a creepy doll symbol on it - that I thought I finally found the code for, but also no - I’m still missing something there.
Anyway, good progress this weekend and happy to be back at it. I believe I am about 3/4 done now.
