At a neutral site, what would be the average score to the nearest point and won-loss-tie record between the Lakers and Red Wings if they played each other 1000 times:
a. In a basketball game? (NBA rules)
b. In a hockey game? (NHL rules)
c. In a soccer game? (World Cup Rules)
That’s WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY too wide a question. You have to narrow it down some. Are we talking the Lakers & Wings teams from this year or can we pick and choose players all throughout both franchises histories?
I suppose just this year’s teams, as the inclusion of players from the entire franchise histories would tend to create an astronomical number of permutations. Though of course, it would be interesting to see Gordie Howe trying out the “Hack-a-Shaq”. Sure, he would probably accrue technicals faster than Rasheed Wallace, but it would be interesting to see how much punishment he could dish out on the court before getting ejected.
Hmm. The basketball game would be an absolute blowout for the Lakers. The hockey game would be the same for the Red Wings. The only real question is the soccer game. I think I’d have to go with the Wings in that one. Hockey isn’t fairly close to being soccer on ice as it is. I would also bet that the hockey players are in better cardiovascular shape than the Lakers. Of course, it would be pretty hard for either team to go all out for 45 minutes like soccer players do. Still, in the end I’d give the Wings a 2-1 decision.
I dont think they would be able to finish a basketball game though. To many Wings would have fouled out.
I’m gussing most if not all of the lakers are unable to skate. So the score could be even more lopsided. My score is assuming that the lakers can at least skate a little.
I’m guessing the Europeans on the Wings know how to play soccer at least a little. They are going to understand defense a little bit better.
I dont think there are very many sports (other than basketball) that wings couldnt beat the lakers in. Football?? No chance. Baseball/softball?? Maybe, but I’d still give the nod to the Wings. Boxing?? Now thats funny, you ever see basketball players fight? Its like your sisters fighting. Shaq may be big, but that wus can’t take a shot. Now, if you use the NBC errr I mean the NBA refs, all the scores are reversed. Except for the basketball score which is now even more lopsided.

The Wings would have an edge on the Lakers in soccer because basketball teams only have 12 players while hockey has 20. The Wings will have a bigger pool of subs to call on.
I agree that the only real question here is soccer (Although I’d love to see Shaq in net for the hockey game). In which case I’ll take the wings.
Even if they were limited to a smaller number of players, they have a larger number of European players, so they likely have a larger number of people who understand or have played soccer to begin with. Hockey/Basketball get people in about equal shape. Plus the Red Wings can run hockey plays on the soccer pitch and get good shots off, but you can’t really run basketball players. I’d call it 4-0 Red Wings…
