The storm was impressive in the Sacramento area, as well. Yesterday the Sac airport was closed by the FAA after wind gusts of 60 mph. Trees are down all over the place, and we just got power back on after losing it yesterday morning.
The wind and rain yesterday was most impressive. It was a lot heavier and more sustained than I’m used to seeing, and we just moved here from Iowa, the land of severe thunderstorms and tornadoes. But, I’m told that we need the rain, so that’s all good.
Things were much worse up in the Sierras, though. Large chunks of road, including I-80, were shut down, and the National Weather Service said that traveling in the mountains would “put your life at risk.” Apparently 140+ mph gusts of wind were recorded in Donner Pass. Just… damn.
I-80 West is closed, last I heard, due to a several-car-and-2-semi pile-up. Mt. Rose and Donner are also closed, I believe.
Snow has stopped here in the valley for the moment, leaving us with about seven-eight inches, but another five-ten are expected this evening and it’s supposed to snow for the next several days as well.
My poor little Scion can’t even pull out onto the road anymore. Good thing the store and the pub are within walking distance, eh?
I can’t speak for up north at all, but here in San Diego it’s rained pretty good for the last couple of days (nothing catastrophic, just a good downpour). No real high winds here, though.
At the moment the rain seems to have stopped but I hear we’ll be getting more tonight and tomorrow.
