Just a WAG, but perhaps you’re logged onto Windows as a user who doesn’t have admin privileges, and therefore aren’t allowed to change some of the IE settings.
The tabs can be enabled/disabled via registry settings. Corporate installs will sometimes do this to keeps users from messing with company standard settings.
You comfortable editing the registry? If so, navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel and look for an “AdvancedTab” value. If it’s there, double-click it and set it to 0. If it’s not there, look in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel for the same value.
Download a copy ofFresh UI from Fresh Devices, it allows you to make all kinds of changes to IE options (and Windows, Outlook Express and some other MS applications) without fiddling with the registry. Toggling the Advanced tab is included. It is completely freeware, without any spyware or adware attached.
Thanks, this was happening to me too. As a side note, at first attempt FreshUI didn’t restore my “Advanced” tab, I had to toggle it off and on again to make it update Internet Explorer.
