Lost in Translation BB Gun

In the movie Lost in Translation, the main characters and some young Japanese man with them are chased out of a bar after the young man gets in an argument with the bartender. The bartender starts shooting at them with some rapid firing bb gun like toy. What is that thing? One character says what it is, but I cann’t hear the remark.

Airsoft (Marui) of some sort. IIRC it looked like a Heckler and Koch MP5SD. Shoots plastic BBs.

Interesting. How much does it hurt?

I was wondering the same thing when I saw the movie.

Here is a FAQ link: http://www.nipponhobbies.com/airsoft/faq.htm

**8. Does it hurt if I get shot from airsoft gun?

It feels pretty much like a bee sting or someone pinching you. But of course, it could hurt alot more if the gun is highly modified, you are being hit from 5 feet away, and you are not wearing any protection clothing.

  1. How accurate is airsoft gun?

Overall, airsoft guns are really accurate, most people can easily achieve a 1 inch group of 3 BBs from 50 fts away.

  1. How powerful is airsoft gun?

Most of the stock airsoft gun is rated a little under 300 feet per second.
But with simple modification, 400-500 fps range is easily attainable. And there are hardcore enthusiasts out there that modified their guns to the 700-800 fps range. But we really couldn’t recommend our customer to do that, because keep it mind that a real 22 caliber round also travel at around 700-800 fps. **

How ironic. I just got done watching Lost in Translation, and I was thinking the same thing myself!

My friends and I had quite a collection of these Airsoft guns when we were younger. They were great for impromptu gun fights in the woods - and in the house. My parents still find BBs when they move furniture

And yes, they do hurt… eye protection is definitely recommended. My bedroom window at my parents’ house has chips out of the glass from these little BBs, so think what they can do to your eyes… I don’t think I was as careful as I should have been when I was 14, but was lucky enough not to blind myself

[nitpick]
I believe that’s more or less ‘coincidental’.
[/nitpick]

Airsoft is used by mock military teams: regular guys who have taken the paintball weekend warrior thing to a whole new level…right down to the exact type of tactics and gear used by Special Ops. Even the guns are mocks of military issued equipment. They use radios, etc. and imitate actual field missions.
